I have 1 fish tank in the dining room and 1 fish tank in the den. I think a nice fish tank in the living room makes your fish tank like a centerpiece for the room. The only down side is if your tank leaks or overflows then you've got a real problem if you have hardwood floors.
I don't know how people can keep tanks in their bedrooms. it would be too noisy for me with the sounds of the filters, pumps and fish splashing sometimes. I don't want to keep my tanks in the garage either because I know other people with tanks in the garage and they all say the cost of heating the tanks is really high. I'd rather keep them in the house so at least the tanks will be near the same temp as my living room.
