already!?! do you have any rubbermaid tubs you can keep your fish in? 20" is shallow, and they might not make it. good luck!
i think your very confused :grinno:
the jewels are in tupperwares outside here.
my pbass are in a real pond somewhere else close by.
and its not 20" its 20 feet deep lol
;)

midnight... shame on you! How long have you lived here?

It's not just the cold, it's the thermal shock (water changing temp to quickly), slow acclamation could work, fish don't seem to like flash-freezing :D.

Which tanks are you loosing out of first?

You can insulate to small breeder tanks with Styrofoam (make a box around the whole thing) and put a couple 60 watt lights inside it to help stabilize the temps.

Same with your ponds, that 2" styrofoam makes a good cover, insulate the siddes and as soon as the sun is on the pond lay a piece of black plastic (heavy trash bags) over 2/3 of the water surface to solar heat it...just be careful, you can cook the fish in less than an hour. Play with this in an empty pond to get a handle on how long it takes there.

I have a few insane things to do for emergency heating, but I don't think you want to go there...but they do work.

yes.....But as stated 72-70 is warm, and is what is common in Fla. Go get a digital therm protect the display, attach it to a long string, take the temp of your pond. Do this often and post the results, I will be interested to see what we find. And if you have the energy, do this in various locations just to get a feel of who, what, when, where, and why....lol

no fish is warm blooded....................
