I never saw them Dec to Feb to begin with much at all because even average nights in 60s drives them deep but ofcourse wont kill them as day temps in 80s/high 70s still keeps water livable for them.
I have caught them (small ones) but never see them swimming around like you do in warmer months ESP summer.
I have only seen lots dead one's and lake behind my brother in laws house is littered with dead PB,etc I havent been there but he told me.
I have lost every green anole in yard and in 3 days of warmth have not seen a single one in area and pretty much everything else other than few house geckos ,brown anoles and cuban tree frogs (amazed they lived but not green natives)
