I'm not sure if they stock them, or if they are released. Most likely the latter.

I know that a lot of people are against keeping gars with oscars, but I've personally kept them together for years; back when I had gars T_T. There are many other people that do as well, so I wouldn't see the harm in trying it. Although, I wouldn't put a gar into a tank that the oscar/s have been in alone for a long time, they don't like that very much.

At one point, yeah. By now, I would say that they aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

I think my question got overlooked... Maybe I can throw it back in the mix :D

I have random question if I may. In that pic you posted... are those real rocks in the background or is that one of those posters you put behind the tank to make it scenic?
If they are real then how big is your tank?

no don't listen to the countless dedicated gar keepers on here! oscars are great with gar, while you're at it include plecos and flagtails too;)

so oscars do not originally exist in the wild with gar?
hmmm, that does bring me back to my point, no oscars with gar.
but now i have some interesting information.

The background is real allright.
DIY styrofoam with Epoxiresin. Tank is a 180Gl.

Tank has all the tankmates you shouldn't get for a Gar, including Oscar, plecos and silver dollars, but the combo works fine for me.
My Oscar gets along fine and hunts the tank together with my Gar.
