Florida Gar Tankmates

i think i read that your tank is a 180 so a lima shovelnose will probably work. an 6" F/S or bigger will go with your F/S you have now. im guessing that all polys will work cuz ive seen just about all the species in with gars. and as far as knife fish i would say clown knife, african knife but not permanantly cuz i think they max out at only 8 or 9", or a good size black ghost knife.

How big of a bichir do I need? Im guessing atleast 6''. My gar has picked off my spotted raphael and convict in the last 24hrs. Still wheenin him off feeders(he doesnt get any....just anything left in the tank that fits in his mouth). And he eats almost a shrimp a day.

both clowns and africans get much much bigger than 8 or 9"...eitherways, as long as it cant fit in the gars mouth, you'll be fine. obviously as long as it doesn't irritate the gar either...but there seems to be a need to say everytime.

i know that CKs get much larger than 8 or 9" and the only reason i said that about african knives is cuz i read it in many places.

africans only get to 12 inches max.
most of the time 9 inches.

just make sure none of the fish get eaten.
a shovelnose would probably grow out of that tank.

hmm okay i thought you meant some other knife i just saw ytd that was refered to as an african knife. clowns and royal knives get okay sized to go with gars thou

Im gonna order another fl gar and down the road get a shovelnose to put in a grow out tank. And I found my spotted raph....I guess the gar didnt eat him.
