Florida Peacock Bass Fishing Circa 2006

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
DM,

I tried the Xraps. Works good but a bit hard to retrieve nicely IMO compared to the other Rapalas. Too bad they don't come in a 3 treble hook model.

Matt,

Here is more info on the XRAPS

I have those in two different colors. The holding capability is much better on the twitchbaits I use which are Mirro Lures. This is not endorsement of the "Mirro", I just find them to be better at holding the PB once hooked;)

I also have a sinking version of the rapalas. Same problem as the x-raps. Will probably try the Rapala with three sets of treble hooks. I like the bb model of the husky, very similar color to my favorite twitchbait.

As one of the exemptions states residents do not need a license if they are fishing in their county of residence. As far as saltwater fishing license goes, residents don't need it either if fishing from shore or structures connected to shore. So, you may bag that saltwater specie if you happen to be fishing freshwater without the saltwater license but on shore or bridge:D
There's lots of nuances to these requirements. However thanks for the clarification:D
the exemption in which you refer...is it this one?
**
Any person hunting or fishing in the person's county of residence on the person's homestead or the homestead of the person's spouse or minor child, or any minor child hunting or fishing on the homestead of her or his parent.

this above exemption refers to personal owned property which must be of ownership of you/spouse/or children fishing or hunting on it....this basically states you are allowed to fish/hunt on your personal property without license.

not meaning to sound like an ***,but have intrests in the field;)

I have the BB model on the Husky Jerk. I didn't bring it with me that day as I forgot to load my lure box in the car :( Had to make do with Li's lures and your Mirro Lure which worked great IMO.

That would be Homestead as recognized by the state.:D

In case of doubt. Just buy a license. It's cheap.

Even if you are exempted. It's often good to contribute to the Welfare of the greater community.

Jed,

Thanks for the Amazon DVDs.

I saw how your Japanese clone in that DVD was handling and releasing his catches with ease and a minimum of potential injuries to the fish. Most often without getting his hands soiled or wet.:)

Found this at the tackle shop but can't find the bb husky lure. Will try out this device and hopefully the bb lure tomorrow if I find it at another place.:D

Sweet! Hope that video was like inspirational. I watched that video over 20+ times already.

I think I need to watch it again when I get home.

the Bass Pro Shop we went to in FL had all kinds of stuff. I bet you could probably find it there.

Those video were amazing. I'm just glad I don't have to travel that far, contend with caymans, anacondas, and hack through the jungle, to fish for Peacock Bass. Just wish we had Temensis here though.:(

All these years I've been here and I've never been to the Bass Pro Shop. It's been on my must go to place though for the past ten years. Maybe, this week or next, there's a a bunch of places up in Broward, I've got to see.

Maybe I'll find one of those fishing flatforms powered by an electric motor or maybe one of those water bikes for fishing as other mechanized means are not allowed on the lake and pathways. Not even those gas powered trolleys or skateboards for kids.

Anyhow, will try to catch some PB or maybe go after those Pacus tomorrow...

Today was the slowest day fishing our lake so far this year. Was it due to 6/6/6?

Not likely. Actually it was a confluence of events that made this day not so good for fishing. I had to spend the whole morning at the Dr.'s office for tests and did not get back home till about 2PM. Started fishing by 3 pm and noticed that kids were all over the beaches. I guess their summer vacation has started. That's bad news for fishing. They were splashing all over the beach areas and muddying up the water.

Anyhow I managed to land one 15 inch bull PB and was able to give one of Jed's floating/surface/diving lures a rigorous tryout.

Here's the catch and only catch of the day:)

Here's a closer look at the catch on a lip grip. It's a dandy tool to have for taking control of fish out of the water preventing it from hurting itself.

This is Jed's lure that was worked out. About two dozen cast produced 3 strikes and one hookup. Got it within inches of the beach before it managed to shake off the lure.
