I've never personally seen that video, but I can guess that it is because a lot of individuals are very big fans of Aro's and don't enjoy watching something they love be ripped apart. Plus, to their defense, like this pinky for example, being that this is a captive fish, their are lots of live foods available to be purchased that are intended for feeding, unlike an Aro which is intended to be a life long pet. Does it make killing mice, goldfish, rosey or whatever any better, I don't know, but it definitely doesn't make it easier to accept.

First, I did not, because unlike the many children on this board, I am not one. I posted what I posted simply because I notice that individuals on a board of mostly predatory fish seem to be against feeding live food to fish that actually prefer LIVE food. I am not trying to perpetuate any cycle here and definitely not trying to instigate any flaming.

As for the baby mice comment, I'm sure you've taken notice to the fact that I acknowledged this fish to be a hybrid, but also stated that the fish is mixed with a predatory fish, therefore, I believe that the instinct to hunt or eat live food still exists within the creature. Does being a hybrid completely alleviate the instincts instilled through generations of natural predation?

For anyone who takes this post the wrong way, don't. I do not mean this to upset anyone here. I would just like it known that whether we are comparing natural occurrances in nature to a fish in a home aquarium, predation is instinctual regardless of how others may feel about the situation.

I personally feel that feeding live food to a predator is good for the fish as it may satisfy certain urges the fish may have to hunt and therefore be good for the fishes mental health.

Anyway, I've said what I have too, so if you have taken this out of context, i'm sorry. Take away what you will from it.

I haven't taken it out of context and certainly didn't expect such a long discertation my friend. :)

I agree that predatory instincts never go away. They may become "distant" over time but never just dissapear.

Both of our points are valid and my post was not meant as a flame. I am no "child" either but it's obvious that the original post was meant to insight praise/disapproval. Either I'm sure would have been just as exciting to Fish beater...

Not trying to offend anyone either. Just utilizing this forum for what it was intended to be used for just like you are. ;)

I registered just so I could reply to this thread. That was pretty cool. Was the pinky live when you fed the fish? Have you fed him any other types of live food?

Well thank you.. he eats quite a variety of live foods.. guppies, ghostshrimp, and of course goldfish..also earth worms and frozen bloodworms.. The pinkey was alive at the time.. but im pretty sure if I wouldnt have fed him to my fish.. someone probable have fed him to a snake! not sure what the diff is...

Indeed. Thank you for clearing that up. I just felt there was a slight attack on my comments (regarding mice falling into a Hybrid habitat, sarcasism noted). Like previously stated, im not trying to flame. No hard feelings.:)

Did you purchase it at the lfs? I have fed my O all of thos elives foods including frogs and lizards. I would try a pinky but my lfs closed shop because of Petsmart.

Petsmart does sell small mice, just not pinkies. You can buy small mice from them but dont mention feeding it to anything or they'll flip out on you and tell you to leave the store!

Nice FH though!

i didnt really read all of the posts but browsing through ive seen alot of

people saying "food is food" .... how come everyone freaked over a

video that was posted last month of an arowana getting eaten by

pirahnas?

That was because the arowana was completely uneccesary, lets see....25 bucks for a feeder just to watch an expensive fish meant to be a PET get eaten. or a FEEDER mouse for food.

I can see it being wrong to feed a small dog or gerbil but a feeder mouse...... anyone who thinks feeding FEEDER mice to PREDATORY fiish is wrong are just pussies with weak stomachs.

doesen't petsmart sell frozen pinkies? I don't see how you can justify selling frozen feeder mice, and flip out about feeding them live.

Don't they also not support live food of anykind on paper, but sell rosies, goldies, and crickets?

Make up your mind already.
