Petsmart has odd policies, I dont shop there anyway though.

They must think my dad really like having pet rats though, Two super rats every week for my Boa, they must think he's crazy.

ahh, Monstrous fish behavior in a monster fish forum..

over at Pansyfishkeepers.com the members would hate this kind of post.

That fish ate that food.

That was because the arowana was completely uneccesary, lets see....25 bucks for a feeder just to watch an expensive fish meant to be a PET get eaten. or a FEEDER mouse for food.

I can see it being wrong to feed a small dog or gerbil but a feeder mouse...... anyone who thinks feeding FEEDER mice to PREDATORY fiish is wrong are just pussies with weak stomachs.

Heh.

I agree, feeding mice and hybrids can produce a negative response. I have no problem with the thread, but please keep flaming to a minimum. If you don't approve, please keep it civil or better yet, don't post in the thread.

no different than feeding snakes.

I guess 80% of the people that have problems with live food, is because of the pain the animal thats being eaten suffor. I include myself in that percentage.
Seeing a fish/mice being torn apart and staying alive during 2m isn´t fun...
I feed my O´s live food, but they eat it in 1sec. The suffor is taken to the minimum. I dont give large feeders, only small fish and bugs.
Im pretty sure the FH didnt instantly killed the mice. Just take bits out of him and the mice probably drown. If the feeder cant be killed instantly dont give it alive. The problem is that most people dont have ball´s to kill the feeder and them call ***otts to people that call them sadistic... Having the kill of an animal in our shoulders isnt the same thing than just trowing one in to the aquarium and watch something doing your dirtywork.
Livefood is the best form of food we can give our pets, but try to eliminate the sadistic part of it.

I'm going to post a video of me feeding a kitten to a barramundi... anyone interested? hey, it's food, some things eat kittens, and fish have to eat..

:screwy:

Feeding a kitten to a barramudi is not the same... Kittens are not meant to be feeders. They are domesticated, and are a majority of the pet population. Pinkies are kept as pets as well, but not to the same degree... I know many many people who have cats, I personally don't know anyone who keep mice as pets.

The problem people have deciding is where to draw the line. Yes predatory fish prefer live food. Would a FH, or even a Trimac ever run into a helpless pinky in the wild? Probably not. Is it humane to feed a pinky? Is it humane to feed a kitten? Obviously this becomes the disagreement. I like cats, and identify with them more than pinkys so, IMO no its not humane to feed kittens. I don't think I'd ever feed a pinky to my oscars either, but is it humane?... i guess im on the fence...

I've always been told, if it's not normal food (i.e beef heart, mice, etc..) then it shouldn't be eaten by fish.. Terrestrial animals should not be fed to fish.

A lot of people keep mice as pets....

How about a bird, like a baby bird. Birds can fall from nests into water, would that be okay?

I'm all for feeding mice to snakes and lizards, but frozen ones, I've never understood why people feed their reptiles LIVE mice, the view of the hunt and the thrill of the kill are not worth the death and suffering which can be inflicted on the reptiles, I've seen mice and rats bite into a snake and the snake has been dead with in a few hours. Was it really worth the 5 seconds of enjoyment? (not that I know if the mouse was dead, I'm sure that it looked a tad frozen)

I think the thing I'm more frustrated with is that it's a mouse, Mice should not be fed to fish.

I refuse to sell beef heart to people only because I don't think it's a good food for the fish.

Any thing that falls into the water and is small enough to be eatin is food. That includes small mamals, which isn't as uncommon as some may think, tons of over hanging branches encompase most all tropical waters.
