Flowerhorn female's first litter! Unfortunately, eggs might not have made it.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hm, do you think my flowerhorn fertilised the eggs at all as well last time? No sign of life yet, I see balck dots but I'm almost certain it's just debris stuck on it, as it's not inside the egg but outside.
Not sure. Can ya take a pic of em?

Heyo! Here they are. It's been exactly 31 hours since she laid her eggs. This is what it looks like right now.

I realised whenever she lays her eggs at the start that it has a little white hook to it always. If my male never attempted to fertilise in the first place all eggs would have gone white already by now right?

Yes if the male didn't do his job they would be all white by now. Looks like you'll be having a batch of fry within the next few days. Lol hope ya got some baby food or crushed up fish flakes ready and waiting for em. Just wait 2 days after hatching to start feeding em. First couple of days they will eat up the last bits of their egg yolk before starting to free swim. After they are free swimming they will need to be fed 4-5x a day for the first 2 weeks, after that you can slowly start cutting back on the feedings.

Okay! Does this prove his fertility? I dunno so far. I have baby brine shrimp i bought a month ago for my previous batch that didn't succeed. Too much fungle grew. But it was only 3 days before I thought that the eggs were all dead so my parents took it and I have no idea what they did to it, I think they washed it off down into the sink... Will do the advice you've recommended. No black dots but they have a slight brownish hue. Hopefully eggs don't die off, or at lesat some are fertile and I can get my first fry. Aiming for a full red Male or female to breed with my Kamfa's. Female has double script and is full red, male has double script and is an RD.

40 hour mark, no sign of life. Not giving up yet though, still so many nice transparent eggs available.

Not sure what others think but I try to make sure and never let the bubbles touch the eggs. I place the airstone so it creates current as the bubbles pass by the eggs. They usually take a few days to hatch and there’s still a lot of transparent eggs so looks like you’ll have fry.

Hey mate, yeah I’ve actually thought about your comment a lot from last month and flipped the pot upside down because if eggs touch I heard it makes a hard shell. I flipped it this morning so eggs aren’t being touched by air but is circulating so now the bubbles hit the top where no eggs are and the middle and bottom get sufficient fanning. There is a crap ton more eggs and at least 5% of the eggs are white. Hopefully it stays that way. No sign of life yet, but there is a lot of white stringy debris stuck on the eggs that’s pissing me off and Some black spots on them (only on like 2 or 4 eggs, but they’re not circles they’re irregular gunk stuck in the outside I think)

Plenty of eggs to work with so far, hope it stays the same. Both finished spawning on Wednesday at 5am in the morning and it’s not 7:52PM Thursday for me. Almost 40 hours since she laid. Everyone had life showing at that mark and I’m afraid my female didn’t lay strong eggs. I might have not given her enough protein because I didn’t realise she’d lay eggs so soon and fed her on pellets for a bit. Kind of took me by surprise when she laid and dropped her tube only 20 days after she had laid her previous litter

Just be patient...it’ll work out eventually. You still have a lot of healthy looking eggs there and a day or more to wait

Hope so. Random Black debris on eggs and it keeps getting my hopes up. Trying to keep an opened mind haha. Hopefully it will work, just waiting for those precious eyes to come in... 2nd day and hundreds of eggs still, not too many white in comparison to the first time, but we'll see. I'll keep you updated.

It's should prove that both of em are fertile. If either one of em were infertile the eggs would be white by the first day. The fact that the eggs have color to them means that both parents are fertile and able to produce offspring. As said previously tho, it'll take 3-4 days for the eggs to hatch so your about half way there. But yeah if ya don't have live food just use some powdered fish food and they should eat that once they are free swimming.
