  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Update a little sooner than I expected, but... I'm starting to see some color! However it seems to coincide with a new found timid behavior... Hrm?

Zulu, you only have one fish in that tank?...no wonder it is shy....needs some company.....how about a couple of blood parrots for company?

Well, there were originally also a GT and a Texas in there. They didn't last long :-\ Plus quite a few tiger barbs. Down to 3 now. it doesn't seem to attack the pleco or the little corys interestingly enough...

I am pleased to report that the colors are getting more vivid with every day. It's possible I'm imagining it but there also seems to be a slight notch on the head now (more like he/she bumped something and it's swollen than a 'hump' :P). Also starting to return to normal aggressive self now :) Feeding a few crickets seemed to do the trick. Varied diet for the win ;)

[edit] I'd love to keep two FHs in here if possible... but I suspect I'd run into trouble. Not a huge fan of the BPs. I'm not really looking to breed either so... What are some decent dither fish to avoid boredom?

not an easy answer, since it depends on the individual Flowerhorn...some are so psycho that you need to keep them alone. Some seem just to mind their own business....as long as everybody knows he is the boss. That said and looking at your setup, I would advice a lot more hiding places, rock formations, caves and long, bushy artificial plants....then you can try:

firemouths
angelicus catfish
common pleco or Royal Pleco
apple snails
barbs
clown loaches
silver dollars
birchir

Mind you, I keep at least a dozen flowerhorn together, as well as angelfish, koi, frontosas, barbs, plecos, albino catfish, bunch of dithering fish, ...then again I got a 700 gal tank...see my avatar..:D

all those fish will get thrashed, well the firemouths anyway!

try more aggressive like another texas, you know wut a convict jewel(the five spot general) or a red devil. those fish wil pipe him down.

I thought the idea was fish that could get along in the long run and survive...not who beats who. If that's the case, then throw in a Red-Bellied Piranha as well...:naughty:
