It's not rare to see a flowerhorn growing an inch or more a month..

You're right, but that rate slows down at around 6 or 7 inches. Also depends on what kind it is. Also depends on food and tank size and stress levels and water conditions. You cannot say that flowerhorns grow to 10 inches in a year. Some freaks might, but most grow more like midas and trimacs.

Good foods I've tried(listed below).. mine loves Cichlid Gold(mini pellets) because he can eat it in one bite.. he can't fit Amazone or Chingmix in his mouth just yet.. and he LOVES bloodworms..

Amazone, Chingmix
Hikari Cichlid Gold, Cichlid Bio-Gold
Bloodworms(live/frozen best, freezedried good, too)
Soon to try: Krill, market shrimp(chopped up fine), etc.

Not quite.

Mine grew to 11" in 6 months. He is a very agressive fish and loves food. His diet includes frozen krill (favorite), hikari cichlid gold (large pellet), frozen bloodworm and beefheart, he will eat flake, but only if i make him. He loves feeders but gets them only very rarely (less than once a month). He has eaten crayfish but only cause the first one he ever saw hitched a ride on his bottom fin (funniest thing I ever saw!) A monster FH scared out of his scales cause the cray pinched onto him, he swam around the tank till the cray let go.

My smaller male FH likes frozen bloodworm the best, followed by the hikari pellets, flake, and least favorite is frozen krill (go figure). I have never fed this guy live food yet, but Im sure he will like it as much as the next cichlid.

I have introduced them both to silversides today, but they have showed no interest.

Now I am not saying that my fish's growth is typical, but i dont think its rare.
