I add salt on a daily basis for one of my flowerhorns. Hes a big guy and his hump was injured with another fish. It helped so much for gill function and hes very active now. I believe he has an infection on it and is healing.Today I added 5 table spoon of Rock salt to my Aquarium, and instantly within few moments my FH Turned dark Colour, moved very slowly, all fins like clamped,It appeared lethargic...So I made 20% water change..its OK now..Kindly guide me shall I continue with salt or freshwater..Is this specific to my fish
I never put salt in my tank unless I have to. People put a little bit but I do not unless my fish are sick like ICK, Flesh wounds etc.
Honestly flowerhorns are hardy fish all you need is water a good heater and some food. If he lays on his side or swims weird I would be concerned which my fish was. I rescued mine so I know for a fact he was sick to begin with.
