Flowerhorn white/clear poop week three

bacterial infection, Tom?

I don't think so the OP treated with both Metro and Kanamycin. I am hesatent to recomend another treatment without trying to figure what the root of this issue is. Other than shoving some skinned mashed peas with epsome salt down it's throat. Then giving it a Meth blue bath. The feces shouldn't be white after that and it should purge the system. If it is then IDK the food isn't being processed I would think. I was also thinking unabsorbed eggs but is it a feamale?

I've always thought he was a male. I'm unsure. Even when he's force fed feces are still clear. It's thought that he got ill from a feeder...a rossy red minnow with a lump on its side. That's also a guess. He got sick a few days after he ate it.....

A feeder with a red lump on the side helps some. You could try treating with Neomycin it's not absorbed by the intestinal tract and is an excelent treatment of pathogens like Aeromonas infections of the digestive system and intestinal tract. Disolve between 25-75 mg in a small amount of water and insert directly down the fishes throat. Try to stay on the low dosage side to start. I didn't want to see you spend anymore mony on meds but it's the best last shot and may just work. Although after all this I'm not taking any credit for saving your fish if it works.

I've ordered some Neomycin and should have it in two days. Would this be a daily dosage? Thanks again.

After the initial dose monitor the fish and if it shows no ill effects, dose this way (staying on the low side of the dosage) for two days rest for a day and see if the fish will eat a small amount of food. I adjusted the recomended dosage down as posted above because I don't want to risk kidney damage, which is the down side to using this. I'm trying to give you some chance of curing this guy. After everything you've tried this is really the last thing I can think of. I like trying the easiest and less risky treatments first before going to more diffacult or harsher treatments. I have also read about (never tried so can't vouch for it) treating the tank with Kanamycin wile administering the Neo orally, just an FYI. Prolonged use of antibiotics isn't good for fish or humans so I'm concerned about doing more harm than good but sometimes it is also the differance between curing the issue or watching a slow disintagrating death, which will surly happen if the fish doesn't start eating again. I'm having an issue right now with a wild angelfish that stopped eating and is wasting away. It hasn't eaten for weeks and is currently in a 10 gallon tank on Kanamycin. If that doesn't work I'm going to do exactly the same thing I suggested to you. Fingers crossed.

I've removed the needles and drilled larger holes in two 1ml insulin syringes that I've then attached small, flexible tubing to. It's marked into 100 "units" in increments of 10. I'm still not sure how I'm going to measure off 25 mg of Neomycin. However, these new "PIPETTES" should deliver the meds much more effectively than the converted bird feeding syringes I've been using. It allows for much smaller diameter tubes. The fish seems to be not digesting anything any more. The force feedings result in him spitting out the food. It looks like he's gulping it down, but the poo remains clear. Would it be clear even if he's swallowed some of the food? The NEO treatments begin tonight. Two days on. One day off. (Hopefully our next conversation wont be about humane euthanasia.) I see that you are all over this site trying to save peoples fishes. Thanks so much for your help and concern.

Would NEOPLEX work? It doesn't seem to be pure Neomycin. My ordered Neomycin was on back order and I can only find Neo Plex.

SeaChem Neo Plex is fine. The delevery system looks good. I really want this guy to make it. Lets hope the Neo gets this under controll. If the fish was digesting/processing food I would expect to see some sign of it in the feces. Keep us posted, regardless of the final outcome you can say you didn't do everything you could to save this fish. You never gave up and that's all we can do. Sometimes we just can't save them. The fight's not over so keep it up.
