Flowerhorn white/clear poop week three

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is more like two months. This post may become a diary of my fishes death.

Monday. It's clear now that he is not cured. Same poo. Same everything. I've introduced the small minnows that I previously had in a Met treated tank. Usually, just the sight of them would send him into a rage, but he barely looks at them. I had hoped that they would trigger him to eat. I'll syringe feed again tonight. He still seems active and alert. I'm thinking about removing the carbon and starting another round of the met. (I may have under dosed?) I know that it may be bad for his kidneys. I've never had a fish that didn't either get better..or die. I've had a long time to make him better and he is not. Since the last round of treatments were both for bacterial, wouldn't it make sense to treat again for parasites?

At this point I would take a fecal sample to a vet and have it looked at under a microscope for a definate diagnosis. To repeatedly keep treating with meds will also be detramental, I have tried everything I can think of and nothing has seemed to work. I would not advise any further threatment without consulting a doctor. There is only so much that can be done over the internet. You have done everything you could at this point and to your credit you never gave up on this guy.

Geez, Tom. I found an exotic pet vet from my dogs vet. They refuse to simply look at the waste and tell me if there is a parasitic or bacterial problem and instead insist on "SEEING THE FISH". They also want a crap load of money. I'll continue to make phone calls today and try to find someone that will just do a sample screening. The fish is now chasing and killing the minnows. It's possible he's eaten a few. There are still about 15 or so...

Yesterday and tonights feedings will contain trace Neoplex. Then I'll wait a few days and watch again. My new delivery system puts the food and meds into his gut. He can no longer just spit it out. I don't know about the legality and all, but I'm seriously considering releasing him into a nice warm canal system to at least give him a chance. I don't want to just watch him die. I also don't want to kill him.

Update. When I got home today I found semi-normal looking brown poo!! It's been MONTHS! I used a little Neoplex, Epsom salt, garlic and softened pellets. Ill do exactly that again tonight and then keep my fingers crossed!

There has been continued improvement. The Neoplex, administered correctly, IS clearly working! Ill post again in a few says. Thank you! !

That's great news, Neomycin should have worked, once it didn't I was at a loss as far as suggestions. The dosing and delevering it inturnaly are definatly keys to sucess. Great job I hope to see posts about a full recovery. Thanks for the update.

20140131_185653.jpgOne more question. Maybe the last...what is the length of treatment? He's gone two days on and now one day off. Is that the maximum result dosage? It's funny. He's even harder to net, now.(The fin damage is from an x tank mate)

Good to hear that the treatment is starting to work. Once the fish starts to recover, i'm pretty sure you'll be so satisfied after all that treatment work :D

Maybe try to do every-other day treatment for at least another week just not to stress the fish with too much treatments and do observations until the fish fully recovers
