As long as you have dithers you should be fine with them. I use my umbee growouts as dithers and it works great. Only once have I pulled the umbees out too early and the eggs didn't take. Then the male went crazy on the female. so I divided them for a week, giving the male a smaller section and adding the umbees back to the female side. A week later I pulled the divider and things went back to normal. So from now on I don't remove dithers until I see wrigglers.

Thanks for the advise. I will get a divider ready. This morning they we're doing great but now they seem to be at odds. The male is after food and is behaving normally but the female is behaving a bit odd. She hasn't come out of the cave since I've been home.

1st up is a group of 14 that I recieved from Cichluvr (cichlidsoftheamericas.com) as wild from Rio Tumbes, Peru. 18 actually but 4 belong to a friend. They're only 1"......... Looking good though!

I've got them in a 110 with some Cubans and 1 G. Red Bahia for now. 150 is next when they are an honest 2.5". Hopefully they'll
be okay until then.

For what it's worth, here's a photo of mature Rio Tumbes festae that someone else posted in another thread (NOT MY PIC):

It will be interesting to see how mine turn out in comparison.

Hi my baby festaes look almost identicle to yours except yours have a little more red on the fins! um i was wondering how long it takes to get them like the last picture or at least color on the body? thanks. Mine are like 3 months old got them at like ~.5"

@runitis, I'd say you're looking at about 1.5-2 years before they fully mature. Hard to say because a lot depends of the individual fish and the individual keeper. Water quality and good husbandry go a long way. All of those babies died btw. Lol. But as i was saying (cough), water quality and good husbandry go a long way.
Good luck with yours.

Do you have any tankmates or dithers to add now? Give them at least a week divided and they should be ok.

Wow slow growers :p oh sorry to hear! Okay i try to keep my water quality maintained i do regular water changes and gravel cleaning every week! thanks for the info tho!

Here they are today. I may be partial but this is one hell of a pair. I recently threw in some dark gravel to contrast the sand. Since then the male has been displaying a much more vibrant red in his fins.
