ATTENTION!!!!!!! to all members this is NOT a thread to bash FLUVAL or EHEIM.. so don't even think about it!!! this is only for people that have a FX5 or are interested in one.. i am NOT a spokesperson for Hagen nor will i be.. this is my study ONLY! i am NOT comparing this filter to any other. so don't even take it in that direction as your posts will not be welcome. :hi:
I just popped it open after about 1 month of use, and does it work?? YES IT DOES!!!! the flow rater never seemed to decrease so i wanted to pull it open to see. and you can see in the pics it is doing its job and THEN SOME! this is what you want from a filter, you want it to pull all the crap particles and wood, in these filter pads is probably 80% wood particles, ( i could smell it) not to mention all my plecos are Pseudacanthicus
it is doing just what i wanted it to do.. and that is filtering my tank and then some.
i have heard on a few occasions of some people letting there's run for 6 months, i would not recommend it. just look at the pics. just because the flow rate is still busting out the water doesn't mean the filter is not due for a cleaning.. your fish will thank you, so get on it!
didn't take me long to rinse and clean all the sponges, longer then most canisters yes but then again this is twice the size of most canister filters so that is to be expected.
Now if i would of popped this open to find my sponges were still gleaming white then i would say i just waisted some money.. but these guys are packed just like a AC500 would be after running a month.. and we all know the AC500's work awesome! even tho there on the cheap side, they do the job as well for a HOB.
and that's what i wanted a canister filter with big sponges like the AC500's/AC110's for all the particles.
disconnecting of the hoses was a snap, using the drain at the bottom with my python made for easy movement to the sink allowing me to drain the water first.
after cleaning and topping back off with new water and reconnecting the hoses, i just opened the valves and it purged itself, once it stopped i plugged it back in it ran for 2min then shut off like it is supposed to do, then kicked back on, with no air coming out of the return.
Dirty? yup
and the canister after rinsing
so in the end, would i buy another for other tanks in the future? yup! you betcha!
:
just wanted to share this with you all..
AGAIN please this is not for comparing the FX5 with the Eheim.. so keep it elsewhere.
