Fluval FX5 Just Bit Me In The Butt!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dammnn.. that's a shame about your loss.. I've heard the FX has tightening issues with the nuts on the top...

so.. what your trying to say is, anyone with a fluval FX5, you strongly recommend using nylon zip-ties to ensure the flex hose remains secured to the mounting bracket?

hehe

good luck with the clean up odd :D

I took this precaution when setting up my eheim 2215. I panduit strapped all of them then tightened them up with a panduit gun. I would highly reccomend doing so. Finger tight may not be enough.

Man sorry to hear about the fish loss and clips popping off.. Looks like i need to run to HD's or Lowes tonight to grab some zips.. My wife would kill me if that happened to me..

oddball did you use a panduit gun to tighten ?

......Just under 650- gallons of water on the floor though....that not the sight you want to come home too.

This can happen to pretty much any Canister filter. Few brands come with clamps for the hoses.

It is also easily preventable. Drill a hole in the intake tube a inch or two below the water line. Should any thing go wrong like the hose coming off or the canister springing a leak it will stop it from emptying the entire tank. The filter will loose suction/prime once the water line drops below the hole in the intake tube, thus not draining the tank.

Yea you might still put some water on the floor but you wont empty your tank and loose a bunch of live stock. A 3/16" - 1/4" hole works well for breaking the suction on a FX5.
