Everything I've ever read is that Pot scrubbies are a waste of space in a canister and are only super effective in a wet/dry. You'll be wasting the effectiveness of the Fx5 by using them. Spend the extra dollars and go with Biomax. Otherwise, what did you buy an Fx5 for, looks?
:headbang2 Glad someone else said it.

SeaChem Matrix. I use the Pond Matrix in sump filters for bio because it's larger, but for a canister the regular Matrix would be hard to beat. This stuff holds an incredible amount of bacteria, both inside and outside the rocks.

So alot of you guys dont use anything else in the three trays but scrubbies?? Shouldn't you use something else in atleast 1 of the trays?

This is a old thread, I wonder if any of these members are still using scrubbies in this way?

I use ReefresH2O spheres-bag fills the FX5 well. Google it; its relatively new but really good stuff mate

Not new it just has been renamed, was called Cell pore. Cell pore has been around a while, but seems to always be more expensive then other quality media.

My self I use all the following, Eheim Ehfisubstrat(no pro yet), Fluval Biomax, Azoo Bio glass and Seachem Matrix as media in submerged applications. I do have the scrubbies in a wet/dry trickle filter.
