I noticed some of the links take you to MFK threads...which have words highlighted in them. I realize you used the search function to find them, and it automatically highlights the search terms. However, you can fix it so it isn't highlighted. Remove the part of the web address that says 'highlight=________' which will be the last bit of it. For example, on the link to the thread about keeping a bare bottom tank clean, it says highlight=Fx5+intake

:)

Ah, Thanks for the tip.

I'll fix that. I am going to eventually have a page dedicated to each mod and process on the site.

BTW, I configured the forum so that Guests could view the forums. I didnt know before but if you were not registered, you couldn't see the forums

Interesting, eventually you'll drive me into buying a FX5

haha, well secretly, thats the whole point. lol

I am working on installing some different themes to gve the board a more personalized look. Members should be able to select which ever they would like.

Well I installed a new theme. Im still learning how to update the configuration files and figuring out the right ones to edit so I can edit the logos and backgrounds.

good site chief keep working on it tell the people. i run 2 fx5 and looking at another 2 i swear by them they are worth every cent you pay for them

Yes, the FX5 is one of those devices that you just can't leave alone and begs to be modified. I wanted to make a couple of comments about statements on the website.

First, the Fluval corrugated tubing is a dream to work with compared to thick-walled, noncompliant pvc tubing and I personally prefer it. I too have pondered the issue of internal turbulence and resistance due to the lack of internal smoothness. However, I would guess that within a few months, the striations fill with sediment and biofilm and greater smoothness is generated.

It's true that the filter intake doesn't have much "suck" and I've also witnesed particulate debris wafting by without getting pulled in. However, I view this as a significant benefit. Having bare bottom tanks, this allows debris to collect on the bottom of the tank, where I can siphon it out. If it gets sucked into the filter, that just means that I have to clean the foam pads more frequently.

Finally, does anyone know if the circuit board will turn off the motor if the impeller freezes? IMO, the temperamental "smart pump" technology, which monitors the pump output is the Achille's Heel of this filter. Frankly, I'd like to investigate disabling the entire circuit board.

BTW...nice job on the website.

 Excellent job!

Thanks folks!

I have another version of the Fx5 site on my computer I have yet to upload. I will put it up when I add more info to it.

I do agree the ribbed hosing has its benefits. It has its disadvantage too, you need those rubber couplings hagen provides to have anything on the ends of the tubing, the tubing is not the best for fluid flow and it fills with lots of junk in ribs that, well....for me...gets cleaned out anytime I purge the filter, lol. Other than those small issues, the tubing is great. It will never kink :)

The turbulance in the filter is inevitable when you have a high flow rate and a small column. Bio film wouldn't do much for curing turbulance.

This can be tested :) Remove the pump, plug it in and then grab the impeller while its spinning. It doesn't spin fast at all, infact, you will wonder how its moving so much water. lol. Stop the impeller and see if the pump shuts off, you will notice because there won't be much resistance any more.

BrianP. Once I add some more of the "mods and procedures" to the forum, what you said will be great in those threads.

btw, for everyone.... JOIN THE FORUM! I am the only one there and I feel alone!!! *tear*
