Personally i've come to hate my FX5.

It's on a 55 atm, and doesn't seem like overkill at all.

HrHagel----What do you hate about it?

Me personaly, Ive had no problems with my 305's or 405's.. So if you are worried about the current, get a 405. You should be ok. But there are ways to control the current and I believe in over filtering, so why not. If you decided to get a Fluval Fx5, let me know. I know a place you can get a new one with warranty for 218.00 bucks..

I've heard mixed reviews about the FX5. I'm upgrading to Ehiem 2080 pro 3 for my new 110g, but i would recommend Tetra Tec external filters, previously i've ran EX700's and don't have anything to could complain about. They are cheap in comparision, easily maintained, very little noise, in 3 years i've never had a problem with any of them. I'm wanting a change and thought i'd try something new or i'd be looking to be my 5th and 6th Tetra Tec external filters

the pro 3 series are just like Hagen's G series. Expensive and comes with tons of useless features which rich people would buy.

I rather go for an eheim 2262 instead.

If you can make a wet/dry. Check out some diy ideas that's what I did on one of my 125s. However I do still have a 125 with a fluval 404 on the left and a fx5 on the right side. You can control the current and as noted prior a custom spray bar helps. That tank also has to big ass power heads. It's a frigging river and my Africans love it. I still want to scrap it and do another wet/dry lol. I think fluvals do a good job but are a pain in the ass to clean out.

I'm in no way rich with money to burn, the 2262 is more to buy than the 2080 model. I'm looking for a quailty external filter which is going to last me ten years or more and i can rely on. And i haven't met anyone yet who will say fluval canisters, including the FX5, is better than the eheim 2080 unless they have a FX5 themself or are selling them

Tyjo1334? That's not good advice. All of your media should be replaced and cleaned frequently. I clean or relace my floss every week and swap out absorbents monthly. Your carbon and such leeches what it pulled out within 2 months hence it isn't doing any good at all. The floss catches the detritus and needs rinsing or it will create nitrates. I'm not lashing out just concerned. The fish tank may look clean and the fish might look good but nitrates are a slow killer. Weekly water changes will totally help but still at this point your filter only agitates the water. Sorry if I sound dickish!

I never replace my media. Unless its chemical, there is no need to. I clean my mechanical media once ever few months and give my bio media a light rinse. Each to there own on filter maintenance.

I hope you have more filters or power heads in that 110 as the pro 3 has very low flow rate for that size tank.

No one will say Hagen Fluval Canisters are better than Ehiem when compared to quality. The 2262 has the same quality as the 2080 but with more media and more than double the filter flow rate. I would go with a 2262 since you are getting more filter power for the money if I were to get an ehiem.
