Fluval fx5

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm not shunning or inventing problems. I've had 3 fluvals and have 3 eheims - the eheims work perfectly, never clog, keep the tank clean, the fluvals clog easily, don't prime well, you have to shake them to get out the trapped air, and they sometimes leak.

So quite simply - in my experience eheims are much better.

I wasn't aiming my comment at you rumblesushi. The FX5 takes a bashing on all forums I use mostly from people who have never even seen them. Invented problems from media bypass to the "click" connectors will be prone to problems. I have fluvals and eheims, and I totally agree that apart from the FX5, eheim have all other fluvals licked as far as priming goes (barring the "classic" range with no primer mechanism). The reason the FX5 has the best priming of any IMO is that the pump is located at the bottom of the filter, there is no need to get the whole thing filled for it to fire up. I have never had a problem with any 404's clogging. Only problem so far with any 404's was a worn out impeller on one of them. Not too bad for 6 of them over a 5 year period.

facts? sure - 25l capacity compared to 5.9 :D

.

Fluval didnt give a measurement of the entire housing (the tub itself) just the media baskets - 5.9l is just the media baskets

Lift-Out Stack of Media Baskets
The lift-out stack of media baskets is at the heart of Fluval multistage filtration. These large capacity baskets, which hold a total of 5.9 litres, enable you to stack filtration media in the precise combination of layers that will work best for your aquarium. Each basket is lined with a foam insert for effective mechanical pre-filtering. The instant-release T-handles let you lift, then seperate the basket stack quickley and easily, making routine maitenance simple.

I saw the Eheim and the tub certainly isnt bigger than the Fx5 if it is at all (could be smaller) and certainly not almost 4 times smaller LOL and I know Eheim media baskets are not as large as the Fx5. So whose specs are factual ? I had the choice of either or and so did my dealer. Seeing is believing

I've seen them both in person. Picked them both up too. The pro 3 is significantly bigger. You're saying that although the actual canister is 25l, the media capacity might be less than 5.9 litres? Hahaha. Come on.

Cichlas - interesting, I didn't notice the pump was on the bottom. That's quite a good idea. It was smaller than I thought it would be in person though.

Also - even though they don't have a self prime and you have to suck them, I really like the eheim classics and bucket filters. They have the intake on the bottom so there is no chance of bypassing media.

What eheims do you have cichlas? And how do you compare the Fx5 to them?

I have 3 classics and a ProII (can't remember the numbers off the top of my head). I don't have any of the big boys from Eheim so can't really compare them to the FX5. The FX5 wins by the preverbial mile over those. I looked at the big eheims when I was looking to upgrade the bioforce 9000 pressurised pond filter, but from my own personal experiences with both Fluval and Eheim, the big price of the Eheim was not justifiable. I like all the cannisters I have, including the Marathon (like an eheim classic) and Unistar (like a rebadged eheim Pro but twice as big). The only cannisters I don't care for much are the two Interpet Primes (a 10 and a 30) I have.

Do me a favor try and take a second to understand what is posted first. Eheim is not 4 times bigger than fluval - they list 25l that has to be the entire tub or canister. based on what you saw your going to tell me Eheim is 4 x larger? Fluval lists the baskets as 5.9l .....I will measure the tub and calulate volume and convert it liters or gallons later. Or maybe I wont take the time and effort, let someone else do it. No longer my concern

I can explain it to you - I cant understand it for you

Im tired of this subject...feel free in starting another thread on the merits of the Eheim Pro II series.....

why don't you try to understand ducati? You're saying that despite the whole canister being 25 litres, it has less than 5.9 litres media capacity?

You're talking ****. You said it yourself, you think the FX5 is bigger and holds more.

Your being very disrepectful - and out of line

Fluval specs

Biological volume: 1.5 gallons / 5.9 litres advantage fluval
Filtration volume: 5.28 gallons / 20 Litres advantage Fluval
Filter Circulation : 607g/h 2,300l/h advantage fluval

Eheim Pro 3 #2080
High tech XL filtration of the future This new external canister filter generation combines high output (1700l/h) as well as large canister (25l.) and filter volume (13l.)

Compare filter volume 20 L (fluval) vs 13L (eheim)
No mention of how big the fluval canister is but Eheim mentions the entire canister as 25L - but if Fluvals filtration volume is larger, then the size of the can is not that important, and at the very least is equal to or greater...

My position stands....
