I'm gonna close this thread if it continues so guys lets just DROP IT NOW!!

I didnt realize I was being out of line? Im under the impression i was being respectful and providing detailed information. I certainly dont want to see the thread closed because it is very important - its certainly a pattern with other members to make any attempt to either hijack or disrupt the thread and cause it to get locked.

In general how does somebody learn about new products without being harassed or ridiculed if its not the product of choice by the offending party?

ok here how this goes.
as long as this thread is factual and respectfull it will stay open as this is valuable information.
if it turns into anything else it is closed.

I have personaly looked into this subject as i am in the market for another filter and i actually think the ehiem is a better filter.
that said i will be buying the fx5 as i do think it is a really good filter and it fits in my cabinet.
both are good filters in thier own right but the ehiem holds more bio filtration than the fluval as it holds more media that you would chose and not just the fluval sponge + 6 ltrs of media of your choice.
the fluval has an amazing turn over rate so the less media it has is fine due to the greater amount of water that is pumped through it.
the ehiem holds more real media but has a lesser turn over rate.
its all about what you want and personally i am all for more media but i cant have the ehiem so the fluval is a good compromise.

I agree with Dixon. I think the Eheim 3 has a slight advantage in quality and bio filtration. However, and this a big issue that everyone has overlooked here. FX5-$275.00- Eheim 3-$500.00. You can almost buy two FX5's for the price of one Eheim 3!

Once everybody receives their Fx5 units if at all possible please post your observations regarding build quality. Please provide details in how the top canister is secured to the bucket, how the hoses, clamps, ball valves, exhaust manifolds, and clamps for hoses and intakes & exhaust are assembled and their build quality. Also if possible mention how the process of using the extra ball valve is used for water changes, and how long it takes for 50% reduction for your size tank. That may give an idea of pump velocity or capacity. Please observe and comment on basket fittings and ease of servicing. And anything else that may be of interest for those still on the fence or shopping.

be as objective as possible if you can....to be fair
