Fluval fx5

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
got mine all hooked up today, let me tell you....its difficult to hook up if you tank is close to the wall and if you have a large canopy...BUT, so far its working good. seems to be built really nice. definatley a good seal on the canister, and it is silent! i would say biggest plus sides to this filter is the way the hoses attach to the tank, the multi directional head, the way it seals, and the low noise level. down sides are that the outlet tube is supposed to be submersed 3 inches (not much surface movement like that), and the way it ejects air from the canister splashed water out of my tank and on my wall!. but so far im pleased.

Total bucket capacity of fx5 is more than 5.9, 5.9 is the bit they leave for you to decide what you put in there, if you so wished you could remove the sponge surrounds and put what you like in! I wouldn't do this myself though. Happy with the 5l of eifsubstrat iv'e just popped in plus 1 polishing pad. Mine arrived this AM :grinyes: Build quality is superb, only problem is that I got my measurments wrong and it wont fit in my cabinet, no worries it sits fine to one side. excellent arrangement of baskets, lifting handles, The whole quality of this filter is WOW, the strap bolts on the lid are kinda never ever gonna break! it's super solid, easy to clean, you can drag any excess debry out of the filter through the purge valve, cool. Clever Smart pump technology, removes any air by itself and includes thermal overheat protection in the case of a severe blockage, pump shuts down untill cooled off!
And I cant believe it's so damn quiet!. I didn't use the fancy hose holders for the entrance to my tank, It would mean me destroying my hood, but the hoses fit perfect through the exhisting holes in my hood and I had some rung suction cups that hold everything inplace. So far I am delighted with this filter it's more than I expected it to be and anyone thinking of buying the fx 5 wont be disapointed!

If you want to see the fluval fx5 close up all parts, baskets etc.., check out the Manual it's a PDF file so you need Adobe Reader installed, here's the link:

I will take some pics too, and keep you posted on any happenings Good or Bad.

this is what i wanted to know as i would remove some of the sponge and replace with other media to get a bigger bio capacity.
thanks i feel better now.
also could you tell me exactly how high it is with all its pipework as i only have 22'' height in my cabinet

Yes 21" , it's allot bigger than it looks in any photo's iv'e seen, Looks like a vacum cleaner  well it's still working and my tank is Crystal clear, The tank got a little murky when i installed the filter due to re- arranging everything and doing a good gravel wash, I could not beleive how quick the tank cleared, well we stood and watched it clear! A stunning product! very pleased !

cheers

my tank cleared right up as well! i did a major water change as i have not been at my tanks for 2 weeks, and i dont think my tank has ever looked this clear (well..not since i added the stingray and other messy guys)

Hey, those of you who own an fx 5, where did you get it and how much did you pay? I'm considering getting one for my 180.

thanks
