there is nothing "natural" about keeping any fish in a tank. if a bare bottom tank helps you to better maintain the water parameters, offering your fish an overall healthier environment, its well worth the switch IMO
 
So... It looks as if eheim takes the cake. Renas aren't comparable and you would usually have to use dual to keep up. Hmm and fluval are inferior to eheims but a little cheaper...

Well thanks folks you pretty much summed it up for me. I'll probably have to search around my lfs's to check out the selections.
 
on my 120 gallon i run a FX5 and Eheim 2028 pro 2. the water is crystal clear 100% of the time and i have very little maintenance to do! i just love it! - i recommend this combo or something similar..

I use 2 x 2080s on my 6 x 2 x 2.

Works fantastic. Usual time between cleaning the filters is 2 years :-)

Works for me as I am out of my place for more than half the time of year.
