Won't the salinity be a problem for an aro or gar?

To stop potential disease i don't think you need to use marine salt, but regular aquarium salt? At 1 tbls/5 gallon its not going to raise the salinity but will serve the same purpose.

2 gator gar in a 150?
Size and agression both put thouse apart;) Also wouldnt put one with something like rays. As for your turtle I think a big school of Monodactilus argeneus would be a great bet as would archer fish (perhaps the archer would be better left for a larger setup because it likes to have a more calm life stile) Scatophargus arent recomended because of their poisonous fin rays. Avoid anything you think would be dangerous for your turt. Monos can be very competitive so target feed your turt but apart from that are really hardy and peacefull

if you decide to make your water salty

you can put fish like the NGT aka New Guinea Tiger Datnoid or AT aka American Tiger Datnoid...

Those two type of datnoid can thrive in brackish water

;)

AND

alligator gar can shred your FRT into pieces >.>

your talking about a potiential 7-10ft predator fish vs a 2ft turtle

FRT's should not be in brackish conditions!.

Actually, not only is this species naturally found in both fresh and slightly salt water, it is commonly recommended to add small amounts of aquarium salt to FRT water to help prevent fungal infection and infections of sores/lesions. Here are a few references for you regarding it (just search "salt" in any of the pdfs/links):

Thanks everyone for all the recommendations. I'm leaning toward a school of some larger rainbowfish species (perhaps Red, Boeseman's and some other species) and one or two New Guinea or Silver Datnoids. I've been told that some of the rainbowfish are capable of living in slightly saline waters, does anyone know of particular species that they know are? I've read that the red rainbowfish are for sure. Anyone know about the Boeseman's or other species that could curvive higher pH?

Thanks,

Chris

Ha, I'm sure he/she would love it! Might even tolerate his smaller friend in a few years when it is larger in a tank that sized. Here are a couple photos:

Hi.

You could try some alligator gar aswell they are hard fish and can take high temp with no problem at all.

If I where you i would keep two alligator gar along with the FRT keeping the tank from being overcrowd and all the extra fish to enter the tank would be feeders.

You have got the most beautiful turtle of them all, take care of him very well dude.

Cheers.

No gars with FRTs

Someone I know lost his FRT coz the gar decided to try to eat it and the FRT got it's hind flippers eaten and it died from shock

Try Eartheaters. They are colourful and easy to keep and they are good at eating left over food and they are not aggressive

Or you can keep faster fish like red hooks and silver dollars or even the tinfoil barb if your FRT is nippy
