Foam in between my tank and stand?

Pretty sure that what he meant, as in Styrofoam... as to the foil I got a roll for less than a tenner and it would do my 180 3 or 4 times over.

I don't think you'd want "foam" under any fishtank, but polystyrene sheeting. 10mm thick will be plenty even for a tank of that size, it doesn't compensate for a twisted or unlevel stand, but will absorb any "sharp" irregularities (eg; a screw head slightly protruding).

Good point, forgot there was more than one name for it!

this is brilliant guys, thank you for your help!

sorry, should have said I still have polystyrene under the tank for irregularities. foil is just for insulation

This depends entirely on how your tank is built. If the side panels are built on top of the bottom, or around the bottom such that the bottom panel is in contact with your stand then you do want foam to cushion irregularities in your stand and relieve point pressures (this does not substitute for a level stand). However, if you tank is built with a floating bottom you DO NOT need foam under it and I actually think its better not to use it.

High density extruded polystyrene insulation foam works well but I've also used high density EVA foam interlocking mats and I prefer those.

Ahh right fair enough. What kind of places should I look for the foam? any particular shops you guys are fond of?
