Foam in between my tank and stand?

I wouldn't, you know what happens when cork gets wet.
I have used a thin commercial grade carpet under my tanks for years. It compresses enough to fix about imperfections in the stand and best of all its easy to slide your tank sound on.

Because glass doesn't flex, so unless you can provide a perfectly flat surface to put your glass tank on foam is a good idea.
It's actually a really bad idea. It may cause the glass to sit unevenly which will cause more harm than good. There is no reason to put foam under a glass tank.

If it is uneven, it will push on the uneven parts. Tank manufacturers will void the warranty if you put foam under their glass tank. Make sure your stand is level, and you won't have any problems. The only support a glass tank needs is around the edge of it. I don't know why one would even consider putting foam under one. It seems like someone thought it would be good idea, and for some reason others have done it. Why would it need a cushion? Makes no sense to me.
if the stand is not leveled for any reason, the foam acts as a new layer which levels out. Gravity obviously pulls on the weight of the tank and so the foam will compress on the point where the highest amount of weight is being distributed.
If there is no foam or cushion, the glass will be strained and may cause leaks or cracks.
I do understand where your coming from mate, but I've also seen the 1500litre tank in the shop i work at has Styrofoam underneath and it provides peace of mind.
