why are they illegal to import are the endangered or something

in certain areas of south America it is illegal to collect certain fish from certain areas..that's how it was with the azuls until they started showing up in areas where they can be collected..

Mike your correct they are located primarly in protected area's of the River sysytem they are known to inhabit. (of course we are sure this is not by accident, but on pourpose of course.) There very aware of what Fogo's are and take thier Laws very serious when they Catch any unlucky soul that get's caught taking Gold from there waters! LOL I don't know if this is how they would put it but i'm sure they will have some strict and Cichla free place's to keep anyone trying to aquire them under the table so to say.

They say the river that the fogos are in is prime for fishing! So I can imagine how serious they are.

Yes it is. Many different resorts along the banks of the Sao Benidito River. I have gone over it many time's even the only accessiable inlet to the River system. It
s strictly catch and relase or eat what you catch and I am sure there is a limit there as well. But still no confirmed reliable source for shippment to the U.S.A. Japan maybe, Canada maybe don't know?!?@!?

Ah, the good old days when you could travel to the undisturbed tropics and bring home a beautiful specimen unknown to science, and perhaps keep it as a pet and observe it.
