What season are they catching these in???

These photo's are from fish caught last month - Aug 2009

Heres a good read from the fisherman (translated site). They were caught in Rio Sao Benedito, and Rio Azul. Curious to see they have names for the Fogo at different stages in color development like the do the Temensis...almost as if they were different species.

Cinza aka 'Ash' for the darker phase, Barboleta aka "Butterfly" for the yellow phase, and Fogo aka 'Fire' for the Green/Dark red phase.

Great selection of fish in these rivers..Fogo, Armatus, Bicuda.

The Fogo were mostly caught in the rivers, but they had success in ponds as well. The fisherman hypothesizes they are in pre-mating season right now...noting their hits on tackle are more subdued than normal. A reply further down notes November to be very active for fishing.

I can't link from here, or post, but I forgot how many pics Seiichi had posted of his young Fogo's.

Go to W.W, and either search Sao Benedito, or check out the Peacock bass thread 2, around pg 54 I think.

Anyhow, great development pics of Fogo from Very small to around the 7"-8".

Great Quality as usual from Seiichi.

Well seems like a good time to bump this thread. A whole mess of pics coming up, many showing some nice greens/blues in the finnage, especially the Dorsal.

Keep an eye out fot the one with the young Fogo. Looks to be in the 11"-13" range. Nice to see red color kicking in around that size.

enjoy ;)

i have noticed the third blotch is ocellated above all the other blotches. In some of the pics they even seem to have a hue of black stretching to the blotch. i also wonder the scale count on these guys vs. xingus.
