This is MONSTER fishkeepers DUDE....start thinking in terms of the ENTIRE room bieng the tank...give that kid a REAL hint.... Leave a strip along the back for servacing...if your gonna be a Bear....be a GRIzzzzzzly
:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:
And cut a hole in the floor upstairs to see 'em.
Seriously though, after doing more thinking (:screwy::screwy:)
I have come up with another option. A "U" or "C" shape to fill three walls instead of just two.
Although it would have to be narrower (2ft instead of 4 front to back), it could work.
Basically three 180's with the corners filled in.

But after a quick trip to garf.org, unless figured wrong, a "U" shape would be 2 legs @ 2x6, and one @ 2x10 to fit in the space.
More viewing area (provided I can use the 125 bottom as the third pane) (I know, I'm a tight a@@), but less gallons (2x6=165=x2, and 2x10=274=x1) approx. 600. Assuming 22" tall.
SO ! More viewing pleasure, OR more actual gallons. (not including the planned undertank sump/w/d).

A virtual conundrum we have here.

See, that's why I posted this, opinions from others don't confuse me, they make me think even deeper into it, and hopefully when the decision is made, the project is started and finished, I can say on a new thread that this is "my" tank yes, be "we" designed it, built it, and anyone that wants to see it (via pics., or in person) is welcome to do so.

O.K., Another thought (forgive me for typing out loud !)
With the "L" shape, I was thinking of 4 foot twin or triple tube lights suspended front to back at 2 foot spacing along the lengths of the tank. (lamps are readily available in all color spectrums) to give an even lighting option, being controlled in sets of two on multiple timers to give a "dusk to dawn" effect.
With the "U" shape being only 2 feet front to back, that sort of cuts down on the available lamp options, as well as 2 foot foot lamps being dimmer than 4 footers. Timers could still be used of course.

Three timers to give you a Noon effect as well. I've been thinking about this for the breeding tanks for some time now. The U will give you a far better visual impact but you might not want the entire thing to be one tank. These WILL be monster fish after all and as we all know they tend NOT to get along the way we might like. so...a simulated u shape... One 10 footer and two 6 footers?

Maybe, have to do some measuring, and thinking.
Good idea though.
I'm leaning toward the "L" at this point.
Bigger footprint = biggger monsters.
I'd like to try an Aro.,P-Bass,Clown Knife, etc. (Big Fish) at some point, and I think the "L" being 4 feet front to back would be more condusive to larger, longer fish.
I've seen these fish in 125's-150's, and feel they don't have enough room.
My current 125 looks too small for the fish of this type I've seen, even as a single fish in the tank.
OR, a "small" school of 1,000 neons could be cool too (tons of plants and driftwood).
Again, I'm in the thinking planning stages (and keep the ideas flowing), so I'm thinking on all levels here.
Lighting, stocking, filtration, cost to build and maintain, what I could potentially stock it with, etc.
To me, it's a big project that will take some time to complete if started, and I want to have the plans and design preset in my mind and on paper before beginning.
Once (if) I get started, THEN I'll be in a hurry to see the fruits of the effort, and a well thought out plan of action will help keep down any mid-build changes/mods.
The 2 sixes and 1 ten seem, at first thought, to be more complicated to filter (excluding one giant central filter), than one inclusive tank with a underlying sump, w/d.
Maybe the same thing, still thinking.

so...an L combined with a seperate leg on a single stand for the hardheads. I keep pushing that because I can't count the number of times I've wanted to add a fish but couldnt because of possible conflicts...

:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:
Guess that would be ME donkey. :):):)
The only possibilty for that would be to narrow it to 2 feet front to back instead of 4..............................................or..................................
Lord help me for saying this, and may the wife not shoot me.
Knocking down a dividing concrete block wall and replacing it with a steel I beam would double and a half the current space size.
:eek: Did I type that out loud ???
Ummmm............ I think let's not pursue that route, otherwise, I may have to start another project first. FINDING ANOTHER PLACE TO LIVE !!!!! :)

LMAO.....I can see that I'm a bad influance on you....

By the way....you DO realize that all a basement is....in essance....is a hole in the ground right?

You just HAD !!! to go there. :grinno::grinno:
Anybody ever see a house sitting on a glass box full of water and fish ???
Tickets for sale !!!! Hell with yard sale signs, I'd give house tours :headbang2:headbang2
Imagine the real estate agent's dismay if we decided to sell.
$80,000 for the house, $180,000 for the included aquarium and equipment.
:ROFL::ROFL:
Let's see............... 30x30x8 (feet that is) = .................................well, that just caused an error on garf.org. :ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:
Guess that means super sized monster. :ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:
