Yep that's what make this hobby interesting, taking basic fish keeping to the next level. If not you might as well keep goldfish or tetras haha.

Besides this is monsterfish keeper right...nothing screams monsterfish keeping like a jdm tank packed with monsters.

Wow... quite bitter on that side... what made you think it was an ugly tank? every person has his/her own opinion... BUT if you don't like what you see then it would be better to put your comments to yourself..maybe for some or many of the hobbyist doviis are ugly to but some of the more educated people would not waste their time commenting on it as it does not contribute to the betterment of this forum.

your aimara is obviosly stressed. no hiding spaces, bare tank and fast swimming tank mates, in my opinion I am suprised the aimara didn't go into shock and float upside down..

why do you want someone's fish floating upside down? it this the mindset of the young hobbyist now a days? wishing and praying that the fish being shared on this forum be floating upside down and dead just because you can't afford it maybe?

are you also insulting my tank as i have bare bottom, free space, and fast swimming tank mates in it?

Not thats its a bad thing either in getting a more mellow aimara. If u can get it to mix in with other fish then thats great. But for me when i think of the true standard for the aimara. It will not tolerate any take mates let alone a heater. For me I want high ojeriza and a sharp tempermeant in the aimara. Therefore i requested only those that had these qualities be shipped and the others im not interested in. To me thats what makes the aimara special out of all of the other predators. It holds the title "the meanest freshwater fish" imo.

Eric, these are definitely from Venezuela with no doubt in mind. They are not mellow... it should be well defined what type of aggressiveness the aimara has. Big goldfish are living peacefully (maybe not yet dead) with the smaller aimara I have. But as WEST1 witnessed the aimara is very aggressive, territorial and suspicious of anything that seems to be non-living and moving. As for the heater... it is not broken, not is it being munched... does your heater move a lot? just wondering...

I do not see how you can request extreme bad temper aimara... your lucky enough to get them and being picky is not the name of the game. Take what is offered and leave it that way... how do you tell your source to pick the most aggressive one? put the fisherman's hand and see if it bites? just want to know...don't get offended but please enlighten US in this forum how you pick extreme aggressive aimara as each one of them do flare up like huge Betta when their gills open and attack the glass walls.

i wish i can do my own website and post valid research on these fish....

I speak of the Aimaras I landed, seen including 32" and owned over the years from differant locations. I have certain things I look for in an aimara. Experiences may vary from person to person. So let each person decide for himself what he wants too take from this info.


Therefore my contribution so far to this sp.
1) Created the largest hoplias photo collection on the net

Then yahoo pulled geocities and hosed all my info I posted.

I stated accurately that the aimara I had, would have not tolerated any tank mates or goldfish. The light in the heater that goes on was not taken to be a friendly by these aimara. Each heater was installed in the tank. One aimara totally bit and ripped off the heater from the holder and broke it against the glass tank. Totally melting the holder in the tank while the heater coils where dangling. While the others bit and slammed it against the glass, so i had to put heaters in special heater cover.

Just like in the dog world there are standards that are created to determine a correct breed. As an example there is a dog called the Fila. In order to qualify as a correct Fila by the CAFIB standard. This dog goes through a temperament test. If the dog does not show the minimum of dislike or hatred towards objects or strangers through certain tests. Its failed... It can be 100% a Fila but not a CAFIB FILA standard.

I actually happen to own a real fila too. Whos sire is the tempement champion in Brazil.

I simply used a similiar model for the aimara I landed. What testing methods i used is something i developed for myself. And my fisherman back at the fish house. Where given very clear instructions about these these temperament tests. And i only wanted those that made it passed this temp test
I had built trust with someone that was willing to work with my requirements.
I know a hard core betta fighter breeder who hand selects fighters. He has certain temperament tests (though basic) that hes uses to reveal a good fighter. Then ships them back to Vietnam to breed. For the aimara I wanted, it had to show a sharp temperament. So thats what i got...

If a hobbyest wants a more mellow aimara. They exist - Im sure also some are late bloomers too and dont show there dislike till they get a lil bigger.

This would be the ultimate fighting fish to have to fight. But its cost prohibitive at this point in time.

My thing about the temp might be a bit over the top for some or most. But thats me and what i feel the true standard for an aimara to be.

LOL...AS PROBABLY MOST OF US KEEPERS ARE JUST AS SURPRISED AS YOU ....MAYBE WE CAN SELL THIS TO ANIMAL PLANET AND GET A SHOW CALLED "THE FISH WHISPER"...SINCE WE HAVE A MEMBER WHO CAN PROFILE AND UNDERSTAND FISH...
