If you change that black sand to lighter colors like natural or white you'll see a good change for the better on their colors. That Im sure because I've had these in the past.

Not trying to hijack the OP's thread, but i have considered changing to a lighter substrate, but at the moment my male is an almost iridescent purple and really does look good. I think the he would lighten for the worse, on a different substrate. I haven't tried it, so i am just assuming. If i didn't like it, changing back to black would be a pain in the $$$ :ROFL:

I also have a few smaller growouts, that are on lighter gravel, so i guess time will tell :thumbsup:

They are great fish, alot more interactive than i thought they would be. My male is more like an Oscar, getting excited everytime i go near him. He will happily take crickets and locusts from my hand.
 
ive been looking into getting some of these guys.. any advice? also how do they get along with the geos?

I believe TUIC has some fry for sale at the moment, if your wanting some. As far as the Geo's, they may/will chase them on occasion. No problems at all, at least not at this size or while not breeding.
