I love breidohri bro, I have a male youngster hes one of my fav. I was always led to believe that darker substrate makes cichlids coloration look better, I regret that I didnt pick up a mate for him, I have a running thread showing his growth progress, he came from light sand to my darker subs and in one month he has transformed into a much more colorfiul fish. But like i said he is a youngster still only had him the month so could just be naturak maturing unrelated to the dark subs. I posed this same question on substrate color and effect but not many responses
I'm just using black sand (not sure which grit) as the substrate. The male switched mates again and is they are now guarding some eggs! I hope this batch makes it and the other guys in the tank don't take them out. Really would like to have some dry to grow out. My geo's spawned and the male geo took out the fry as some as mommy released them from her mouth. It was kinda sad since she held them for 2 weeks!
Congrats calvin hopefully the bried fry will make it. On a side note the two male doviis I thought I had turned out male and female and paired up and are about 5.5-6" and looking awesome. Still very shy but should spawn soon. Again good luck with the spawn

Looks like I may have lucked out ( at least I hope) I finally can see the batch of wigglers and they seem to be doing well. I'm debating on whether I should pull everyone else out of the tank to see if that will increase my sucess rate. I'm afraid that the Geo's will take the little fry out once they become free swimming. May need to setup yet another tank to house the tankmates for a while.
