Hello; Are you suggesting that because I might be arrested for discharging a firearm near a house, that I allow a dog to attack me?

Yes, because I said you should get mauled. A dog barking doesn't mean aggressive.

And if you're so worried about it.. BUY A CAR.

And by law a dog must have access to shelter and food/water at all times. If you see that it does not, you need to call the authorities.

Hello; I have a car. I ride the bicycle for exercise and fitness. My knees and feet are somewhat used up, so I cannot run or walk far enough to do any good. Even so if I had no car and relied on my bicycle to get around to work or groceries, your concern for my well being is understood. I ride on the paved shoulder of a public highway with a wide grassy bit of right of way beyond the shoulder. I am well away from the private yard wher the dog is located.

In summary of the advice given in recent posts - A dog capable of chewing thru a one inch cable will only chase me for something to do and that I should not defend myself. Also if the dog does get me, it is OK with at least some of you. Please correct this if I have any of it wrong.

By the way, I pulled cable in the logwoods as a young man. We had one inch cable on the back of a D8 dozer. I somewhat doubt that any dog can be tied by such a cable. That cable is very heavy and the dog would be pinned down by the weight. I also will be very suprised if any dog can chew thru such a cable. I have assumed that this part is a typo or that the actual cable that the dog chewed thru was much smaller. This is an unimportant side issue with little bearing on the main discussion.

I also will add that I am not the only one using the road. I live close to the LMU campus and see many others running or bike riding.

As far as the living conditions of the dog in question, I will check into informing the authorities. I also will try to get the address for you if you wish to do something (I can give very easy directions as well.)

I will close this post with this. I have run and biked for many decades and have had to deal with many dogs. Most have not been very serious about biting me. A few have and I can, to some degree, tell which is which. A friend was bitten by a german shepard that for the first few weeks merely barked at us as we would run by. I do not intend to harm any dog just to be doing so and will not if it is not needed. I also hope that among those that are on the other side of the issue of this thread, are some that will agree that I and others have the right to defend ourselves if we are able. I am capable of defending myself, small children and some elderly often are not.

If you feel the need to defend your self do so how ever you please, it is your right to defend your person
Do the dog a favor and call the spca so it can get the help it needs

Animals are what you make them. Abuse them and they will do what comes natural in nature, defend themselves. Humans do the same. My wife and I have 5 rescue dogs; (2) Labs, Beagle, Mastiff and a Pit Bull. The Pit Bull is as loving and loyal as the Labs are. All he wants to do is make you happy.

Pitbulls are the best breed, dogs don't kill people we do.good video we need more open minded people like your self to open people's eyes on how beautiful loyal loving breed pit bulls are...

Amazing the amount of young children and toddlers that are killed by these dogs "defending themselves" :screwy:

The fault is not the dogs, Brian. It is bad ownership, again and again.

Most likely yes, but of all these pitbull/bully breed owners, how many are actually qualified to train, house, or disapline these animals? Not something for the average dog owner, especially being most are inexperenced in the first place.

Fully right there.

Falls in the category of bad ownership as i was saying.

It happens with all breeds that get trendy and status symbols, or masculinity extensions.

Most assured way of destroying a breed. So many were destroyed, many more will follow path...:(

Brian i believe thats the biggest problem......... the people who want the pit bulls are often people who should not even own a pet...... they want them for various reasons all of which are the wrong reasons... thank goodness that some pitbulls actually get into good loving homes.. from people who just want to love a dog as their pet........ most pits end up with the bad reputation and have bad things happen to them because of the ownership....... they want them to fight.. they tie them up and use them as lookout watchdogs.. from the police..... they use them to attack people ... this is what most of the bum rap against pits gets its start.....then some of the rest is bad breeding.. incest etc..occasionally due to this.... the dog snaps.. even in a good family environment.. the people do not know anything about the dogs breeding because they adopted it from the pound.. And due to the wrong people maintaining this breed in vast numbers you get alot of unwanted puppies.........
