Just remember that those fish in the pictures are juveniles and nowhere near full grown. What happened to the catfish dovii? They are better than gars in my opinion. It would be in the silvers best interest to not be housed with em.
 
i have my 2 silver aros with my gar.not a clear pic but it works

judging by the size of the gar in your pic, i would guess the combo hasn't been operational for a very long time. for combos to really work you have to think in the order of years...that fish is a yearling at best--

Oh come on you should know two or three weeks experience means it is all good... I kept some Fathead minnows with a gar for a few weeks and it worked great too. No gar aggression at all.. Not sure why they all disappeared though as they where getting along so well. must be the filter.
