Found a baby snapper at work, few pics.

Eventually a snapper could become stressed by not being able to breath eazily due to the water being to deep but usually won't drown

but they should be able to breath without haveing to swim so with deep water a place for them to climb on to rest should be provided like a floating piece of driftwood or a pile of rocks

He hangs on the filter right now...or if the hornwart in there is bunched enough in the corner he will chill on that too. I might lower it because I really like seeing him sit on his rear to get air lol.

So I decided to give my little guy some feeder fish last Thursday. I went and got 12 rosey reds and while I was there I got a pleco for the algae since the tank gets sunlight for now. I knew there was a good chance the pleco would get chewed up or killed but he was the same size as the turtle and has a hard "shell" almost so I thought it might make it. Well it went from 12 to 5 minnows by Friday and the pleco munched on some green stuff and was A-ok. I came back to work today (Monday) to find only 1 minnow left (cool) but there is no more pleco. And when I say no more....I mean no more. Not a trace....not one little itty bitty part left. He ate it completely....I am amazed...the pleco wasn't that small....the snapper must have pulled it apart and ate it bit by bit over the weekend. I only wish I could have seen it.

I love this guy!!!

I am amazed your suprised. Plecos don't really have armour, although it may look like it. Not to mention they aren't really algae eaters, that is your job to remove.

Well im surprised that he ate it all. I thought I would see a head or something, they are hard on the outside and it was as big as the turtle. They do eat algae when they are small...and he did do a little cleaning before he got chomped. I just wanted to see what happened when I put him in there...didn't really expect it to be 100% gone. I had several turtles before and going off what I seen them do I was thinking there would be some parts left of the fish....not just a pleco turd LOL

Yeah... well some eat algae some don't, it depends on their diet a lot of the time. Either way, if P's can eat a pleco, theres no way a snapper isn't going to be able to dessimate it. They'll chomp anything!

Never kept P's but have seen them in action. I would love to have a tank of red bellies but they are a no no here.

That pleco must have filled his arse up...there is still a minnow swimming today lol.

Can they overeat if I just put a bunch of minnows in there. I am going out of town for 9 days. Someone will check on it some but just wondering in general will he overdo it?

Yes, they can over eat. Captive turtles are notorious for getting fat deposits and developing liver/kidney problems from eating too much. Your turtle will be fine without eating for that long. If you're keeping it for the long haul, I would try to wean it off feeder fish as they are not very healthy for it.

Very nice find, I found a snapper before and i ended up having him for 11 yrs then it got to the point that he was just way to big to keep anymore and a zoo close by took him off my hands:)
