You say that like it's a bad thing :grinno:

I love tall tanks and a four footer would be awesome if done right, but I would hold out for a seven footer. Thats just me though

You ever try planting a tank over 2 feet tall? :naughty:

Okay, I will admit that that can be a PITA but isn't that what this site is all about? :)

4ft would be too tall for me, personally speaking. My old 6x3x3 was just right. I don't think I'd want a 4ft tall tank. Would look incredible, but I just wouldn't want to deal with it!

As much as I love plants, this will be sparsely decorated. Might just get a big show piece of DW and a few rocks for the eartheaters to get busy on. That's it.

Personally with something this big I would get it made to specifications you want. Its not to much money.

It's kind of a lot. Certainly at least 4 times more than I'd pay for this one, plus freight. I've never paid more than 800 for a tank.

Does that get the siphon necessary? Is being 3" any advantage over just having a rigid 1" end?

Think about it. The top of the tank is 6' high. The 3" end is filled with water all the way to the 1" attachment. I start the siphon and it works great!

I'm thinking with a deep tank like this I'd take great pains to set up a closed loop system with my FX5s to get some optimal water movement down low so things either collect in one spot for quick vaccuums or they float up top to the overflow and mech filtration (socks). That'd be ideal, since it'll be on a drip and potentially even RO (which means no easy/quick way to refill large volumes removed). The goal is for this tank, even moreso than the 120 upstairs, to be maintenance-free. Because I'm not in that room nearly as often.

I have a canister filter for the lower levels just for this reason.

I also have a drip system but I don't filter the tap water. I just run straight tap water into the top of the tank. I run about 1 gallon an hour and the excess water overflows to the sump and that extra water overflows to my yard. The grass is greener where ever I put the water. I run it out a garden hose and move it from tree to tree every few days.

I love tall tanks. My current tank is 26" (120g 60x18x26) and my new tank that I will be setting up soon is 29" (210g 72x24x29). But 4' seems a bit too much for me; I might go as much as 32" but no more because it would be a nightmare to clean.

DO IT! i have a 4 foot wide tank, and when i had it on its side it was huge! would look totally stunning

Oh I can picture it. My question actually has nothing to do with the height of our tanks. Just in general, of what benefit is the wider tube on the end for the vaccuum? Is it any more powerful a suction than just leaving the same size tubing all the way there?

I would love to set up my drip drains to go to the landscaping we'll be putting in. But this is below grade. I'd need a separate pump (and the associated failsafes) for that. Plus another hole in the block. And the need to safeguard against freezing... not worth the hassle.

There's a cheap option for you Dave. Come get this 540! Make it any dimension that you want!
