Four foot tall tank - Too tall? Or just right?

Wow. I don't know how, but I've never seen that thread. That is awesome.

I love that they painted the back of it. What an unnecessary but awesome extra detail.

Well, either he's a heck of a liar, or some other kid was going to put a deposit down tomorrow. So I put one in tonight. I still have the ability to withdraw it when I see pics and video on friday, but otherwise I'll be picking this bad boy up in two weekends. After that it'll be a bit of time before I can get it into the house and set it up, but right now things look like they'll end up with me making this baby work... just what my wallet needed...

I think I'll keep it simple and just put trim pieces on that overlap an inch and a half up top and at the bottom... gives it room to have some air above the water line and all that stuff. Toss a small curtain on either side or just mask it off, and 45" vertical exposed space is the same as the viewing area of a 92" screen. Not entirely sure how I'll manage an easily accessible lid but maybe I can just leave the top open and go over it. It's already 4 feet deep and tough to reach, what's another 6 inches? Or maybe I can design in two or three pneumatic lifts that'll open it for me.

Switched to bookshelf speakers in this one too :) Same as what I've got upstairs. Paired with the good sub they're just as good as the massive one, but take up less space. Don't need giant power suckers anyway in a 14x12 room...

Mocked up a light maple version of the old one too. Hard to duplicate a light wood in Photoshop. Could be OK, I guess. But I prefer dark wood. An orangey oak would be nice too if not for the fact that I think it might clash with the sofa in there... Otherwise that color definitely works with Colts blue. Bobby can speak to that!

If you get it set up to where the top half doesn't look plain empty really tall tanks are some of the best looking in my opinion.

Looks like May 1 will be the pickup date. If I don't get the room ready before then, this thing will end up sitting in the garage forever. So I've got someone coming over today to give me a consult on finish carpentry. The to-do list:

- knock out the back wall, reframe for french doors. I figure I can hold off on actually buying/installing the doors themselves til whenever it's convenient.
- figure out what to do about the hallway tile in the door threshold.
- re-route some electrical for this and run the wires for the projector and rear speakers through the ceiling while the drywall is down
- re-drywall
- hide the drip and drain 1/2" plumbing in the wall behind the existing baseboard
- wainscoting (with help from the finish guy) and new baseboard
- new carpet
- frame the stand

With that done, I can put the stand in place and put the tank on top of it. Hopefully all this home improvement stuff can get done for about $1000 in the meantime.

I'll have to get some photos before, during, and after, and put them in my project thread...
