i heard that these pigs are genetically modified to produce a viable GH for humans. admittedly i never looked into it myself! any truth to this?

a quick look on wiki (they're never wrong ;)) shows that HGH was 1st taken from human cadavers, then later synthetically produced with genetically modified e. coli bacteria. i saw no mention of pigs.

i apologize in advance for nitpicking, but as the supply of natural salmon goes up and the demand goes down, the price of natural salmon will actually drop to compete with the GM salmon. economics 101.

Not really the case. It takes many more people to fish wild salmon than it does to remove farm salmon from a big pen. More people mean more wages which mean more sales must be made to cover these, alas price increases. Also consider the dangers involved with fishing natural fish and people want more money for doing it, prices go up again.
Then include the extra skill for fishing naturally, again people want paid extra in recognition for that skill. Again on the up.
Also add in the boats, nets, food, fishing clothing, etc that is needed to operate a boat and group of fishermen, yet again the price goes up. Compare this to a net and a couple of guys, a boat being used in a calm river/lake/cove; they are not subject to the danger and the equipment is not subject to the battering of wild conditions for days at a time.
These mean more sales must be made but if fewer people can afford the ultimately more expensive salmon then the price must go up again to cover the costs because of fewer sales. Eventually the price gets to a point where it becomes a food of the elite.
I only know about this because I grew up in a fishing town and many school friends went to fish like their parents, grandparents, etc. Cod is a good example of comparison that I know about. Cod supplies are now on the up after fishing quotas were introduced and demand is lower because of newer sutainable and much cheaper cod-like fish showing up and cod keeps getting more and more expensive and not less as your "economics 101" would suggest.
While resistance will initially be in place for the GM salmon it will break when it gets far cheaper than wild salmon. It will likely continue to drop in price for a while further increasing its use.

Yes, it takes a lot of discretion to understand that some things are bad to expose yourself to and some things are good to expose yourself to. The Sun is a terrible thing to expose yourself to, directly and reliably correlated with skin cancer and blindness. You should not expose yourself to the sun, it creates many chronic illnesses. This is not a theory or a scare tactic, it has been known for decades now. But the sun tanning industry keeps lying to the people and the people keep falling for it.
Yes. You shouldn't be outdoors between 10 am and 4 pm. It's a basic rule of life we live by. Once or twice a year on vacation or a hike won't kill you, but do stay in the shade or wear strong sunblock (if you can find the non-toxic kind!). Sunblock is also horrid stuff and it's much safer to just plan to stay indoors those high UV hours.

I think you might have been trying sarcasm, but it failed because everything you said was true. Fail. Don't eat beef, don't go outside, do take vitamin D. Etcetera.

LOL!!!

Your down syndrome analogy is laughable. I'm talking about a molecule, your talkign about a person with a mis-developed brain.

Actually... they have a third copy on their 21st chromosome which causes all the problems. So its a valid analogy to the salmon in that both possess abnormalities within their genomes. The salmon probably just have a few extra or altered base pairs vs a whole extra chromosome.

this is why natural salmon cost more than farmed, more labor involved. it does NOT illustrate what you claim (how farmed salmon DRIVES UP the price of wild salmon). wild salmon price is the same as before, farmed salmon is simply cheaper to produce.

it's not an increase, it is what it is, more expensive than farming.

completely unrelated to farmed salmon driving UP the price of wild salmon. this is labor cost driving up the price of wild salmon.

this is just more justification of the already high price. again, this is what it is, farmed salmon is nowhere in this equation.

again, the price is not being risen because of salmon farming. it is simply more expensive to do than farm. OR, they lay off some boats and workers because there is less of a demand for them. you wouldn't invest in producing the same amount if there are less buyers, or else you're stuck with a bunch of salmon you can't sell.

cod is being fished in record amounts, higher than ever before in history. this means that someone is buying it (in other words; there is a high demand). i wonder if that has anything to do with the rising prices?... if it wasn't selling (low demand) it wouldn't get sold, which means they wouldn't fish so much of it (lower supply). why would anyone waste their time and money producing something they can't sell??? economics 101.

cheaper GM salmon will not drive UP the price of natural salmon. the price for natural salmon will stay the same or come down. it will seem expensive in comparison, but in reality the price for natural salmon won't move (except for down, in order to compete).

you pick and choose your battles in life, just because the sun can give me cancer, doesn't mean i'll live underground. just because i can get sick from eating beef, doesn't mean i wont eat steak. just because i can die in a car accident, doesn't mean i won't drive my car.

you sound like a crazy person paralyzed by fear when you say things like "Don't eat beef, don't go outside". did i "Fail"? why are you talking like a pre-teen?

 You sound like a suicidal maniac looking for ways to die. I want to be around to see my grandkids someday. Many of my friends are already dead. Why would I want to increase the risks already in front of me? Every time our species finds one more unnatural way of doing something it moves us a another notch toward irreversible complexity and reliance on automated systems. Next you'll tell me you're okay with having a robot in your house to do chores. Don't be a puppet. Stand up and refuse to be incorporated into this easy cheez factory of high-sugar instant gratification. We are better than this.

This sounds like the bases for so many Science Fiction Moives it's insane take the Movie Allagtor for example they mess around with the DNA to make things bigger what ends up happening is that he creature ends up eatting three times as much.

My qestion is what happens if one of theses beasts gets out into the Ocean and goes missing for asay ten or 15 years and comes back. If a normal one of these things is a 100 pounds when it is full sized then one of these things would be 300 pounds if it where to come back after ten years possibly so what would something that is over 300 pounds be able to eat maybe a dog or a cat or some people then?"

But I wounder would this effect life span of these creatures or would they be able to live as long and get huge?

HAHAHAHA, I KNOW I'M SO CRAZY RIGHT!!??!!?

FOR MY NEXT STUNT, I'M GOING TO........ DRINK TAP WATER!!!!!!

I'M TOTALLY OUT OF MY SUICIDAL MIND!!........ i'm kidding, the things i said are normal everyday things for almost all people (except the very poor), you are the extreme. what the hell is an "easy cheez factory of high-sugar instant gratification" anyway?

uhhh? it doesn't make them bigger than normal, it only makes them grow faster.
