Just a baby yet, that's part of his activity. When gets some size on him, the barbs are toast. Beautiful specimen.

I really find bichirs to be gorgeous! I don't know how someone could just throw him out. And yes the great part about the tank setup is that if he wants more space all he has to do is eat his tank mates!

On that note, should i remove the smaller fish or just let him eat them? I personally feel that a fish is a fish so i don't mind the barbs acting as feeders(they're sure healthier than feeders). So i guess this is an ethics question, would you re-home the smaller fish? Or let nature take its course?

I'd agree with you, just let them be feeders.

You don't care, but what about your lady? Will it cause you more problems than you'll want to deal with or not? Probably would be the deciding factor for me. My wife gives less than a popcorn fart for any fish, I'd let them be feeders. But yours has professed liking at least the parrots. Are the barbs included in that liking?
Something to think about.

No pictures of the newer bichir haven't taken him yet but looking into a tank upgrade rather than downsize the stock. As for the one i have now, he will only eats silversides. Ive tried pellets with no luck, tried frozen shrimp with no luck. Would stuffing the silversides with pellets work? Anyone tried this?
