Freeze dried insects

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Those 2 insects are crappy feeders. Dubia roaches and earthworms would be a much better option. Dubias have a longer digestive track and gut load a lot better. The bearded dragon would like the Dubias as well

Explored the dubia's not happening bro. Just not happening. She's a city girl lol

Would the poly eels go up to the top of the tank to eat the bugs?
No but the gar, dat, and small silver aro's should. Well maybe not the dat

Ive been feeding minimal pellets to the bichirs and i like the results. I havent removed them all together and do not plan on it but feeding them varied fish (tilapia, smelt, shrimp, krill ect ect) more often is the plan.

Imagine a few of those roaches escaping and colonizing your house. You'd have to build yourself a doghouse to move into after she throws you out LOL!

Like the results as in less waste or more fattening?

Less fattening, less bloated looking, and less waste. Natural looking thickness comes with time.

What are you all doing to reconstitute this freeze-dried stuff?
I've tried the krill for all my fish. Some love it, and some not.
The Oscar . . . not.

I remember when freeze-dried food first hit the market for campers.
Yuck. :barf:

But I too hate keeping live crickets, worms, etc.

I picked up a 5 lb box of dried black soldier fly larvae on amazon for $35 as a "treat" for my fish/reptiles and they love them.

They absolutely love the FD crickets.

Do they sink? I presume none of the freeze dried insects sink?
They dont sink but the surface feeders seem to be really enjoying them.

This is what ive been doing the past 2 weeks.
A mix of chopped tilapia, market shrimp and smelt twice a week. A small amount of northfin once a week. Going to try out otohime at some point.

The smaller guys like the gar and aro's are getting fed smaller meals daily. FD krill/crickets, live meal worms, tilapia/shrimp/smelt, and floating omega one pellets/hikari food sticks.
