Fresh or Salt?

Imagine a pile of money burning and your shoveling more money at it hoping the fire will warm you alittle maybe thats how i feel about saltwater tanks sometimes.

It is expensive unless you live by some tidepools this week im setting up a 75g Reef tank and stocking it with native stuff like goblys starburst anemones purple urchins seastars blue leg hermits serouisly tho you cant beat free.

both posses their own beauties in their own unique ways...after all, why do we crave to go to the beach when we can bathe in our shower all our lives...its a balance.

Freshwater is better for me because you can keep top of the food chain species without have a 10,000 gallon plus tank.

I have to say there both pretty awesome they both have there own quirks that make them great. I find many people say salt is way better and they list there reasons but I find that is because they haven't explored the full possibilities of fresh. They both a wonderful to work with.

FW to me is kinda like Ford or chevy cheap to buy and fix not as fun or flashy but it will get you there

SW to me is kinda like Ferrari or Lambo Expensive to buy and complicated to fix but drops jaws end of story

I dont know man i have to disagree. While a nice saltwater tank can definitely be jaw dropping, what can you do under 500 gallons that beats a tank full of peacock bass, aros, and other monsters. There are no saltwater predators that go in a tank that size and are as cool as amazon fish IMO. Now if I had a public sized aquarium I might change my mind. Get some tarpon, snook, sharks, jacks, groupers etc. And a barracuda!

But for 99.99% of home sized aquariums, I think a well done freshwater predator tank would be more jaw dropping.

Also depends on the audience. If you like pretty colors than maybe its saltwater, but if you like pretty colors and ]V[onster Fish its gotta be fresh.

i guarantee that the majority of the people who voted "Freshwater is so much more beastly than salt!" have never tried salt water but judged it anyways

i have to disagree, most people i know (who arent fishkeepers) dont like to look at large freshwater predators and would much rather see a brightly colored saltwater fish swimming amongst a reef. and the general public (most of which dont keep fish) prefer salt over fresh because of the color and simply cant appreciate freshwater predators like we can
