i was looking around and i am really interested in getting some frontosas. as of now i have a empty 55 gal., is it possible to keep some in there? and if so how many.

thanks.

Sorry, fronts get way too big for a 55 gallon. They're colony fish, and my experience has been that even when small and growing them out, they need a six foot tank due to territory, or they start killing each other off. I lost several very expensive moba fry that way.

i agree, ita too small. fronts get 14-16 inches long, a 55 is only 13 deep. it's like you living in a bathroom.

I started with 3 very small frontosas (1/2 in.) in a 55G with 3 yellow labs. As they grew, it turned out there was one female and two males. The males did not get along so I moved one to another tank. The male and female spawned 3 times before the male jumped out of the tank. He was about 15" and the female is about 6". I have the juvies growing out in a 120G.

It is possible, however a bigger tank is better.

You def. need a bigger tank......growing them out to 3-4 inches in the juvi stage is ok for a few months but need to have a larger tank lenght wise 6' so when they get spooked and dart they dont smack the tank....and for territory reasons....They are a great expensive fish, and require a bit more space than most.....pretty much a species only tank....
For more information check other threads or Cyphos.com......a frontosa only site, or even cichlid-forum.com, they have a great lil read up on fronts there as well.......read and learn before you keep:D

i may be incorrect, but i thought there was some speices of fronts, that don't grow to 14", some that stay like 10", anybody know?

True, not all front types get to be 14". I think, but I'm not sure 100% that the common ones (brurndi, spelling) grow the largest at 14 -16" max.
