frontosa's in a 55g?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wouldn't they last in a 55g for awhile? Don't they grow slow?

Yes, they are very slow growers. They would do fine in a 55G for a while. Depends how many fronts you are talking about.

Burundi's are the bigger ones.....and all males get quite large, just takes time and tank space ofcourse....

As far as a 55gal goes.....they would be good for fry's, but once you start getting 3"s you might want to get them to a larger tank......depending on the amount also.......(10) 3"ers would be quite full......they also start to set dominance within the colony to adulthood......I always like to have the tank set up for the fish and leave it.....instead moving them tank set up to tank set up......and people really never move them when they should......How many people seen oversized fish in 55gals.....I.E. Aros, redtail cats, Pacus, Oscars, and Fronts.......:irked:

Do it right the first time and be happy with it too........Nobody likes being moved around house to house.....I dont think fish do either:D

Just my 2 pennies though:popcorn:

GET 'EM!! If you were going to buy them with plans to upgrade, you would have awhile to do so, they grow very slowly. You'll love 'em and go buy a tank big enough for a bunch of 'em!!

If you are in Houston there is a place off of 45 North and 242 past the Woodlands Mall called Fish R' Us. www.fishrushouston.com is their website, it has the exact location. They have lots of Frontosa for very good prices. What I would pay 30-40 bucks here in Atlanta, they have for $13.99. If I lived in Houston I would be broke from buying Fronts all the time!! Check it out, there is a really dark blue, almost black one in the last photo...I wanted it. Enjoy!

fronts take a really long time to grow, if you plan on gettin a bigger tank eventually go for it

Fronts dont grow as fast as lets say oscars, but from a 1" fry with proper food, filration, water changes, and SPACE it can get to 4"s in a yr.......and males grow a lil' faster......

If your not gonna have the means to get the proper set up....why waste time and effort to accomidate a species of fish in an unproper living set up.....If you want a small tank or have only space or money for a small tank.....put the proper fish in the proper tank....

Why half ass something?

well i do have a 210g community tank, i guess the fronts can go there in due time.

ive been to fish r us and man they got all kinds of fronts.. thats what got my interest in fronts. thanks for all the info.

i finally got some fronts, but im having a hard time with them eating. ive tried freeze dry krill, fresh market shrimp, and blood worms. the only luck i got was with blood worms. what else do they eat?

You can go with NLS, Flakes, Brine shrimp, sinking pellets......Never feed fronts and floating food! Always defrost frozen fozen so it will sink.....Fronts are deep dwelling fish and never come to the surface to eat.....They dont know how to "hiccup" if they swallow air, and they will get float.....

Fronts also do better a sinfle species tank or other types of non aggress lake tank. fish..... Are your fish out and about or hiding all the time....If they are hiding they might be a lil' skidish of the other tank mates
