very true, but i was just curious as to how strong their claws are....it is pretty sharp looking and ur 90g glass was untouched??? Flawless??? Not even the tiniest scratch? are their claws stronger then plastic??
The glass was completely untouched. It was a completely bare tank, so that helped (no grit). Again, it is impossible to scratch glass with a claw as long as there is no foreign matter (grit) involved.
As far as acrylic, I would guess that they are fairly close in hardness, but I think the acrylic may be just a wee bit harder.
Where are you located? PM me if you don't mind.
You can see from the photo that my snapper has some pretty formidable claws!
I don't know... I have kept Snappy for about six years, I also kept a little Vietnamese water turtle (not sure of species) for several years. Never had a problem with glass tanks scratching.
Have other MFK'ers had issues? I suspect any turtle damage to glass would be from them digging at the substrate/aquascaping.
They have claws just like any soft shell turtle. The 2 only times in my existence that Ive hold one in my hands the claws felt just like any one from a softshell turtle of comparable size. And as such they leave marks in the glass that make themselfes notice over the years. You are lucky in that way. Normal turts like sliders leave marks not only from the claws but also from the shell margin. Most of us turt owners really dont care about that
