Frustrating Time at PetSmart.

So I took my girl friend to buy some new fish. She told the lady what fish she wanted, the lady asked how long the tank was setup and what kind of tank it was. Good for her car about the fish, then she unprompted said i have to check becuase some people put them in bowls; reffering to the molly.

So since she seems to know so much about fish and tank size, I asked what size tank for a bala sharks for life. She said 55 so becuase she was so consered about tank size, I asked how can you justify putting a 14 to 16 inch fish in a 12 inch box 55 (48x12x20). To this she said well its all about what you can afford? if thats the case maybe some people can only afford a bowl for a molly and she should be consered.

Then again unprompted she suggest a 55 is ok becuase you stunt their growth. To wich I explained they only stop growing on the outside,and thier insides keep growing, leading to a bad death, or poor quality of life.

At this point I was totally upset, she should just keep her mouth shut, she was on track and winning. When she was just carring about the fish. Grrr I hate it, I don't expect them to know it all, but I do expect them to not say something stupid. who knows what people she told that BKG can live in a 30 gallon or that an oscar can live in a 30 gallon.

If petsmart sold only the fish that fit the tank size, they would make no money, and cause a large majority of there customers go somewhere else.

It's a corporation....they only want money...they don't give a sh$t about animals.
That's life, theres nothing we can do about it.

I worked as an Aquatics Manager for those B@st@rds for a very long time. I got to see first hand
what they really care about. Corporations are evil.

You read my freakin mind. None of us like petsmart, yet half of us still shop there

I never ask questions in Petsmart nor do I take any advice from there employees. When they ask questions like what size tank I have I always respond, "why are you going to buy me a bigger 1". My fiance' says I can be a jerk sometimes.

Yet you have kept 6 bala sharks in a 55g for over 6 months

can you really expect some one at petsmart/co to really know what they're talking about, I mean seriously.

Isn't that why these sites are around so we don't have to deal with bs, the only lfs that I really respect are the mom and pop that have a general idea on what they're doing. I don't even really bother talking to employees at corporate fish stores.

Generally the big chains give a bad name to the whole pet business. I know how hard it is for the local pet shop' to make it and I try to give them all my business,regardless of the price difference. If it's something I absolutely can't find elsewhere I will relent and buy it. Don't like to BUT??????
