I understand its important for a keeper to have a decent knowledge on caring for fish, but at the end of the day this is why its important to read up on things first than relying on someone elses guesstimated bull $hit. I agree with lots of people on here, at the end of the day places such as petsmart are corporate, their managers push them for sales. Although personally i think if you sound more like you know what you are talking about, you will sell things more easily.

I understand You have not read any of my post about my bala sharks, so i wont critizie you for speaking without understanding what the case is. Also In this post I said bala sharks in a 55 gallon for life, I didn't ask what size grow out tank. I am sure your aware of what a grow out tank is, so I wont belittle you by explaining. nor will I assume you are challenged for thinking 5 some how equals 6.

Sorry you thread just sounded so hypocritical. The lady, she was just giving bad advise, yet you seem to be practicing it. How long do you plan on "growing out" your balas? I would imagine that after 6 months they are to the point of needing a larger tank, or maybe the stunting has already began.

BTW didn't you start out with 6 balas?

:nilly: Here we go again. These threads always kill me. Everyone is an expert, except Petsmart/Petco/so on. If you weren't trying to blast Petsmart, but only the girl, you should have left their name out. The only reason all you people that agree with the threads like this is because the store names in the title. If it had said "my lfs", this thread would get 1/8 the responses and blasting because there is not a national title that everyone is familiar with. Not to mention, most of the people that agree to these threads have been on this site for only a matter of months.....every time. Not saying "time served" makes you an expert, but you usually have a better understanding of how the fish and fish sales world works. These employees are usually kids and students, learning as they go. I managed pet stores for some time, and I had to start in the same spot these kids do. I didn't know anything. I had to slowly learn. Give them a break and don't just keep digging at them so you can prove a petty point. These threads iritate the piss out of me. Not to mention, the hypocritic side of it......every time. I may not know anything about the op, but I DO know enough to see when you point your finger at someone else, you have three more pointing back at yourself.

not only 5 bala sharks, but the tank appears to be well overstocked as it is:
------55: 5 Bala Sharks, Red Tail Black Shark, 4 Rosy Barbs, 4 Tiger Barbs, Odessa Barb, Red Glass Barb, Paradise Gourami.

Do balas actually get 16 inches long?

Not many Bala get past 8" anyways, at least she was asking some of the right questions.
I have personally seen (in Las Vegas) Bala Sharks nearing the 2' mark had to be at least 8-10" tall and 3-5" wide.... soooooo

 I'm sorry, this is a huge stretch of the imagination. If it were even possible, they would be old as dirt.

Holy balls! Those are some good sized bala's. I like the tinfoils too.
The biggest bala I have ever seen was 8". They were 10 years old too.
She had 3 of them.

Thanks for the link.

lemme tell you all a little story.. i work at the pet store in question. i worked in the aquatic department. i got moved to cashier because i was apparently giving out too much information about fish and tank size, compatability, proper reptile care and tank size, etc, and was causing people to not buy fish or reptiles. i get "talked to" at least once a month for "butting in" on the aquatics department( when someone comes through the register with 3 plecos and tells me about their 10 gallon tank and guppies, i want to smack someone..HELLO WE SELL OTOCINCLUS(sp) a school of them would kick behind in a 10 gallon AND do a better job cleaning up AND not outgrow the tank in 3 months.....grrrr) we hired a new petcare manager,, his experience you ask? he was a starbuck manager.. the man is AFRAID of reptiles, and ALLERGIC to everything furry. not to mention knows NADA about fish, and comes to the register at least once a day to ask me advice on something.. ARGHGHGHGHHGGHHGHGHGGH
