Like it alot Supprised they don't tear the plants apart maybe they do and you just fix it up daily?
 
It's all about having the right amount of substrate.. what you can do is have a separate tank where you let the roots grow before planting them in your monster tank.. the roots of these plants are probably 6-10" long.. sure, sometimes the newly planted plants get uprooted but I just stick them back when I change water.. another tip is to plant them near driftwood or rocks.. that reduces the chance of the sand getting stirred..

I've asked myself that same question many, many times.. funny thing is I buy them like that.. I don't have the tank or the patience to raise those sewing needles our lfs' carry so I take them whenever they are availible with some size.. funny thing is they always have an upwards pointing snout..
