Future wet pet :)

I hear you on the beating but at what age/size roughly do they begin breeding. My guess is around 5-6" for a fish this size??

When I've bred large african's 12"> they have left the loaches alone except to skirt them away from a breeding site. Is your warning because of the total area these fish take over as a breeding site? Or vieja's just get that nasty? I have seen a pair of Festae's breed and that was something to behold as far as aggress goes but I did not think these were that bad from what I've read. I also know this is a hybrid so all bets are off.

I am not really looking to breed this fish but he seems to already have a GF :D

It also seems that these fish at this size like to be over stocked like a Mbuna tank to reduce aggr.

Steve

Fish can snap at any time.. I know Cyano/Carpintis guard their nesting sites like a fat kid protects his cake. You can never really know with these hybrids..

You know she's right. I had the most peaceful blood parrot in the world and then one day it started to try to kill my convict and jack dempsey.

Gorgeous fish! Much better looking than some of the Vieja/Texas crosses I've seen.

With all the talk on Red Texas lately, what color are their eyes? and when they start to fade where does it usually start?

I will try to post pictures later tonight but the one I have has red eyes and almost a burgendy color behind the gill plate/belly.

I believe mine is a female but she stays almost black with the green/blue pearls.

Oh and I got my own questioned answered BTW, the male above was already courting her and digging pits between the rock areas in my tank.
I guess I will be thinning out the tankmates quicker than planned :(

This is what I picked up as an RT. but I don't think it should have a flowerline.

Sorry for the bad pics again, she is much darker than the pictures show

But first I did get a better one of the male :)

The first fish pictured in the last post is insane!!! Worm pearl face, net pearl on top of head, and that color wow! The one you bought as an rt looks more zz fh.

thanks, I guess the pictures I started this thread with were really bad :)

the one in question:
Theres green/blue spots all over it like a texas but I also see why you say its a ZZ because of the other tell tale signs. flowerline, etc....
By what I see in the tank and what seems like a dorsal spot I hope it is a female. I'll try to get better picks as they grow and we will see what they become.
