Month 1/2 update, still hard to get good pictures but at least theres something to look at.

He's grown to 5" and gained some orange fins. He also has started to notice me in the room

Curious what people think this fish now shows for traits. It has grown past the male above but I still thinks its a female because it has the black in the dorsal and its actions in the tank. ie: this guy's brother pushes her around and is only maybe 4". It does have a bigger helmut though I will say this, if he is a cross dresser I pity the poor bastard when he finds out.

He is turning out sweet! If he tolerates sharing a tank with that pleco and clown loaches he's even sweeter.

I've never seen him aggressive towards them at all and they are always taking his food

He's grown a few inches over summer

This is his girl friend, she's laid eggs three times...

And this was what the Red texas looked like before I gave it to a friend. Obviously not a red texas but he/she was nice before the vieja grew up.
